OPENING STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN EDWARDS This morning the subcommittee begins hearings on H.R. 2273, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA represents a major effort to provide comprehensive antidiscrimination protections for persons with disabilities. The bill was introduced first by our colleague, the former majority whip, Mr. Coelho, and is now managed by Mr. Hoyer. The bill has broad bipartisan support, with 200 cosponsors.
