THIS Collection of Poetry was originally designed for the use of a Free School; but in the progress of compilation, it occurred to the Editor that it might be adapted for more general use. From a desire to make it as extensively acceptable as possible, she endeavoured to combine both objects, and to produce a Book which may find entrance into Families, as well as into Schools. By publishing this little work, the Editor hopes to assist in the cultivation of purely devotional feelings, in the minds and hearts of the very young. She believes that nothing is better calculated to induce and strengthen an ardent love of God, than the contemplation of his works, and therefore she has inserted some pieces which, perhaps, have no direct religious tendency, but which appear likely to awaken |
