COMMISSION ON EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATIVE, AND JUDICIAL SALARIES WITNESS RAYMOND A. FONTAINE, COMPTROLLER, OFFICE OF THE COMPTROLLER, GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION Mr. ROYBAL. The committee will now hear from the Commission on the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Salaries. Mr. Fontaine, will you proceed? Mr. FONTAINE. Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I have a formal statement I would like to submit for the record. The Commission was established under Public Law 90-206. It meets every four years to make recommendations to the President on the appropriate levels of compensation for the Vice President, and for positions in the executive branch from cabinet officers through level V, for members of Congress, and for Supreme Court Justices and other members of the Federal judiciary. The Commission will not activate until October 1, 1984. Since there are no employees onboard, I am testifying today on behalf of the commission. The appropriation we are requesting is for $160,000, which is the same as it was in fiscal year 1981, the last time the Commission was active. Historically, the commission has completed its work in about three months submitting recommendations to the President in December, and Congress has taken action by March. This commission would be active from October through December, 1984. This concludes my statement, Mr. Chairman. I will be delighted to answer any questions. [The statement of Mr. Fontaine follows:] |
