CIVIL SERVICE REGULATIONS.

Regulation I.

These regulations shall apply to all positions in the public service of Long Island City, with the following exceptions required by the statutes, namely:

All elective officers whose titles and the special titles of the civil officers, other than elective, excepted under the provisions of the statute, and which appears in Schedule E, annexed.

Regulation II.

Appointments and promotions in the Civil Service of Long Island City shall be made according to merit and fitness, to be ascertained so far as practicable, by examinations which, so far as practicable, shall be competitive.

Regulation III.

1. The violation of any of the provisions of the Civil Service acts or of these rules by any person in the Municipal Civil Service shall be considered a good cause for the dismissal of such person from the service.

2. No person in the public service shall use his official authority or influence to coerce the political action of any person or body; or shall dismiss or cause to be dismissed, or make any attempt to procure the dismissal of, or in any manner change the official rank or compensation of any person in such service because of his political or religious opinions or affiliations.
