PREFACE

This work constitutes an extension of Burns' Annotated Indiana Statutes, Revision of 1914, and includes all general legislation and all statutory constructions from that Revision to the present time, arranged as to Articles, Chapters, Section Numbers, Notes and References, to conform and fit on to that Revision. This Supplement differs from any supplement to the Indiana Statutes heretofore issued, in that it includes all of the material in the Supplement of 1918, thus placing the complete statutes and annotations since the Revision of 1914 in one general arrangement and under one Index and thereby supplanting the Supplement of 1918 in such manner that references to that supplement may be found in this.

All of the General Laws of Indiana now in force and effect, which were passed by the General Assembly at the Sessions in 1915, 1917, 1919, 1920 and 1921, are included herein as they appear in the official publications of the Secretary of State. An appendix, with an index of the special, private and temporary acts, and the joint and concurrent resolutions of these Sessions, is also included, the joint resolutions proposing amendments to the State Constitution being set out in full.

The annotations consist of notes not only to the laws contained in this Supplement, but to the sections of the Revision of 1914, as well. These notes show which sections have been amended, repealed, construed, or affected by the decisions of the Supreme and Appellate Courts. Additional notes are also given on the Constitution of Indiana and the Constitution of the United States, where there has been reference made in the decisions of the Supreme Court of Indiana, or the Supreme Court of the United States.

Cross references are made to relevant sections, and where an act or a section of an act is referred to in the context, the corresponding section number of this supplement has been indicated. A table of Sections is provided giving the corresponding section number, page and year of the Session Laws, and the cross reference table giving the section number in this supplement of the section of any act. A new feature of particular importance has been added in this cross reference table, which indicates by key index letters in what manner the respective sections may have been affected or successively affected since the Revision of 1914.

Grateful acknowledgment is made to Charles Kettleborough, Director of the Indiana Legislative Reference Bureau, for the unusually complete and thorough index to this work, and to the members of the Bench and Bar of the State for many of the improvements in this 1921 Cumulative Supplement.

Indianapolis, August 29, 1921.

SAMUEL GRANT GIFFORD.
