To dig the sandy shore.

My holes were empty like a cup,

In every hole the sea came up,

From "A Child's Garden of Verses," copyright, 1895, by Charles Scribner's Sons.

Of eternity.

Thus our little errors

Lead the soul away

From the path of virtue,
Off in sin to stray.

Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Make this world an Eden,

Like the Heaven above.
