SENATE CHAMBER,

TOPEKA, KANSAS, January 8th, 1867,

12 o'clock M.

This being the day fixed by the Constitution of the State for the meeting of the Legislature, the Senate was called to order by Lieutenant Governor James McGrew, who is, by virtue of his office, President of the Senate.

On motion of Senator Scott,

Senator Emmert, of Bourbon, was chosen as Secretary pro tem., and took and subscribed the following oath, which was administered by Hon. L. D. Bailey, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of Kansas.

I do solemnly swear, in the presence of Almighty God, that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Kansas, and faithfully discharge my duties as a member of the Senate of the State of Kansas, to the best of my ability. So help me God.
