Mr. Fuller moved to reconsider the vote by which the House did not pass House Joint Resolution No. 6 (file No. 237)—

A joint resolution proposing an amendment to section 9, article 5 of the Constitution-increasing compensation of members of the legislature.

1. Amend by striking out of lines 27 and 28 of section 118 the words "and such fee may be returned or retained after hearing in the discretion of the court" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "but such fees shall be returned in case said appeal is denied".

2. Amend by striking out section 119, and inserting in lieu thereof a new section 119 to read as follows:

"Sec. 119. The provisions of this act shall apply only to counties having a population of 600,000 or more".

A bill to amend Act No. 84, Public Acts of 1921, relative to purchase of stock by corporations.

The Committee recommended the adoption of the following amendment thereto, and the passage of the bill when so amended:

1. Amend by adding a new section after enacting section 1, to stand as section 8 and to read as follows:

"Sec. 8. Subject to the limitations of the laws of this state and of the United States with respect to monopolies and illegal restraints of trade, any corporation organized for pecuniary profit, or organized on a stock share basis not for pecuniary profit, shall have power in furtherance of the objects of its existence, to purchase and hold shares of stock of other corporations organized under the laws of this or any other state (jurisdiction or sovereignty), for purposes similar to those of such corporation; Provided, Any co-operative agricultural marketing association or company organized for profit may hold and acquire stock or mem. bership in a co-operative agricultural marketing association not organized for profit."

House Bill No. 34 (file No. 13)-

A bill to permit two or more counties to contract for super-highways,

With the recommendation that the following amendments be adopted and that the bill then pass:

1. Amend by striking out of line 1 of section 1 the word "combine" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "by their boards of supervisors' contract”. 2. Amend by adding to line 4 of section 1 after the word "ordinance" the words "and when the term of any contract made hereunder shall have expired, it may be renewed for a term or terms subject to the other provisions of this act". 3. Amend by striking out of line 5 of section 3 the word "the" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "any three".

4. Amend by adding to line 11 of section 4 after the word "commission" the words "The counties may in their contract provide rules and regulations governing the procedure of the said commission".

5. Amend by striking out of line 2 of section 8 after the word "of" the word "twenty-five", and inserting in lieu thereof the words "not less than five nor more than fifteen".

6. Amend by striking out of line 2 section 8 the words "unless it is otherwise agreed".

7. Amend by inserting in line 3 of section 8 after the word "to" the words "not more than".

8. Amend by adding a new section to the bill to stand as section 12 to read as follows: "Nothing herein shall be construed to take from the State highway department any jurisdiction that it may have over any State trunk line highway now or hereafter established".

9. Amend by adding a new section to the bill to stand as section 13 and to read as follows: "Should any provision or section of this act be held to be invalid for any reason, such holding shall not be construed as affecting the validity of any remaining portion hereof, it being the legislative intent that the act shall stand notwithstanding the invalidity of any such provision or section."
