Lansing, Thursday, April 9, 1925.
10 o'clock a. m.

The House was called to order by the Speaker.

Rev. M. Dissette, of the South Baptist Church of Lansing, offered the invocation:

"Almighty God, Our Father, before Whom every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is God, in Thy presence this morning we render Thee thanks Our Father, that we dwell in a land in which the counsel of God is sought in the affairs of State. We pray that Thou, who art the King of all wisdom, will grant unto Thy representatives and ours the wisdom of God in the affairs that are before them this day; and may they conduct the business of this State in recognition of the fact that righteousness is all good, but sin is a reproach to any right. We ask Thy blessing upon them and upon our State and nation, for the glory of God and in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen."

The roll of the House was called by the Clerk, who announced that a quorum was present.

The following members were absent without leave:

Messrs. Bristow, Darin, Haight, Harris, Musson, O'Connell, Van Every and Walters.

Mr. Netting moved that Mr. Van Every be excused from today's session. The motion prevailed.

Mr. Hartzog moved that Mr. Haight be excused from today's session.

Mr. Carter moved that all other absentees' without leave be excused from today's session.

Petition of the Kern Road School Parent-Teacher's Association of Wayne county asking that an appropriation be made to cover the provisions of the Sheppard-Towner Act.

Petition of the Potter School Parent-Teacher's Association of Saginaw asking that an appropriation be made to cover the provisions of the Sheppard-Towner Act.

Petition of the Winterhalter Parent-Teacher's Association and the petition of the Lynch School Parent-Teacher's Association of Detroit asking that an appropriation be made to cover the provisions of the Sheppard-Towner Act. The petition was referred to the Committee on Public Health.

Petition of E. H. Humphrey and sixty-one other citizens of Monroe county approving the bill authorizing the cancellation of auto driver's licenses if driver is intoxicated.

Petition of E. H. Humphrey and sixty-one other citizens of Monroe county approving the bill which provides that the sale of intoxicating liquors which result in the death of purchaser shall be deemed manslaughter; also approving that certain articles may be used as evidence.

A bill to prohibit the removal of motor vehicles, purchased on contracts, from the state in which parties to contract resides.

A bill to give persons employed on highways in this State the right of way over other traffic.

1. Amend by striking out all of line 6 of section 72 after the word "States". The question being on the adoption of the amendment to the bill recommended by the committee,

The Committee on Judiciary, by Mr. Watson, Chairman, reported

House Bill No. 477

A bill to amend Act No. 76, Public Acts of 1879, relative to manner of appointment and salary of stenographer in police court of Grand Rapids,

With the recommendation that the following amendment be adopted and that the bill then pass:

1. Amend by inserting in line 12 of section 20, after the word "annum", the words "and such additional amounts as the board of supervisors of the county may by resolution provide,”.

The question being on the adoption of the amendment to the bill recommended by the committee,

The amendment was adopted.

The bill was ordered printed, referred to the Committee of the Whole and placed on the general orders.

A bill to amend Act No. 256, Public Acts of 1917-to provide that fraternal benefit societies may hold real estate.

The bill was received from the Senate on Monday, April 6, with an amendment made by the Senate, consideration of which was postponed until Tuesday, April 7, and further postponed until today.
