A bill to abolish fraternities, sororities and all other secret societies among pupils of the public schools of the State of Michigan,

Was read a third time, and, the question being on its passage,

Mr. Chas. H. Reed moved to amend the bill by inserting in line 4 of section

1 after the first word "any" the words "high school".

The motion prevailed and the amendment was adopted, a majority of all the members-elect voting therefor.

House Bill No. 32 (file No. 140), entitled

A bill to amend section 4 of Act No. 279 of the Public Acts of 1909, entitled as amended, "An act to provide for the incorporation of cities and for revising and amending their charters," being section 3307 of the Compiled Laws of 1915, as amended by Act No. 119 of the Public Acts of 1923, and to repeal subdivision (z) of said section,

The question being on agreeing to the title of the bill,

Mr. Dykstra moved to amend the title so as to read as follows:

A bill to amend section 4 of Act No. 279 of the Public Acts of 1909, entitled "An act to provide for the incorporation of cities and for revising and amending their charters," being section 3307 of the Compiled Laws of 1915, as last amended by Act No. 119 of the Public Acts of 1923."

The motion prevailed.

The title as amended was then agreed to.

Mr. Callender moved that the bill be given immediate effect.

Mr. Culver moved that the bill be ordered known as the "Callender Bill".

Senate Bill No. 145 (file No. 108)

A bill to require the bonding of persons, firms and corporations engaged in the business of soliciting accounts for collection.

The Committee recommended the adoption of the following amendments thereto, and the passage of the bill when so amended:

1. Amend by inserting in line 11 of section 1 after the word “filed", the words "Provided however, That if such person, firm or corporation is a non-resident of the State such bond shall be filed with the Secretary of State."

2. Amend by inserting in line 16 of section 1 after the word "bond" the words "At the time of filing said bond said person, firm or corporation shall also file a certificate containing the names and addresses of all persons interested in or conducting such business."

3. Amend by inserting in line 2 of section 2 after the word "State" the words "or to any justice of the peace".

4. Amend by inserting in line 2 of section 2 after the word "Corporation" the words "person or persons".

The question being on the adoption of the proposed amendments made by the committee,

The amendments were adopted and the bill was placed on the order of Third Reading of Bills.

The Committee of the Whole also reported
Senate Bill No. 229 (file No. 227)—

A bill to provide for the making and maintenance of certain public improvements by two adjoining municipalities and for the assessment of the cost thereof. The Committee recommended the adoption of the following amendment thereto, and the passage of the bill when so amended:

1. Amend by striking out of line 4, section 2, the word "City" and inserting in lieu thereof the word "municipality".

The question being on the adoption of the proposed amendment made by the committee,

The amendment was adopted and the bill was placed on the order of Third Reading of Bills.

During the sitting of the Committee of the Whole, Mr. Walters entered the House and took his seat.

Mr. Dykstra moved that when the House adjourns on Friday, April 10, it stand adjourned until Monday, April 13, at 8:30 o'clock p. m. The motion prevailed.
