Four Chinese scrolls. These objects are a combination of cloth (raw silk) and paper, about 4x7 feet square. Two of these scrolls were painted and decorated by the Emperor of China, and the other two by the Dowager Empress-work of their own hands. Procured and transmitted to the Historical Department of Iowa by the Honorable Edwin H. Conger, United States Minister to China.

BRONZE AND SILVER MEDALS.

The George E. Roberts collection consists of 81 Bronze Medals, in duplicate, or 162 in all. They embrace the following series: 23 Presidential Medals, from John Adams to William McKinley; 25 issued to army officers for acts of bravery or other meritorious services; 19 issued to United States naval officers; 14 which are classified as a miscellaneous series. These medals were struck in gold or silver when first ordered by Congress. Copies are now made in bronze from the same dies for museum and exhibition purposes. This set was kindly presented to the Historical Department by Hon. George E. Roberts, Director of the United States Mint.

Bronze paper weight in the form of a medal issued by the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railroad Company.

Twenty-seven silver medals. These were issued by the government at Washington and were given to the Indian Chiefs in the west-twelve of them being known as "Peace Medals." They were distributed upon the occasions of making treaties, and also given to friendly chiefs by the commanders of exploring expeditions. Presented by Charles P. Birge, Keokuk, Iowa.

U. S. Grant Medal, in white metal, and an ancient coin. Presented by J. J. Hoffman, Murray, Iowa.

PAPER MONEY.

A complete set of postage currency and a nearly complete set of fractional currency of the United States, issued during the civil war. The whole framed and glazed. Loaned by Mr. Simon Casady of Des Moines, Iowa.

Confederate 50-cent bill. Presented by L. C. St. John of Ames, Iowa. $5 and $10 bills on the Bank of Richmond, Va., and a $5 bill on the Chatfield Bank of Minnesota. Presented by M. A. Latham of Searsborough, Iowa.
