The exports of lard during the fiscal year last past aggregated 556,840,222 pounds, valued at $52,375,864; as against 611,357,514 pounds, valued at $46,560,148, exported during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1901; 661,813,663 pounds, valued at $41,939,164, exported during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900; 711,259,851 pounds, valued at $42,208,462, exported during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1899, and 709,304,045 pounds, valued at $39,710,672, during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1898.

The average export price of lard during the year last past was 9.4 cents per pound, as against 7.6 cents for the year preceding and 6.3 cents for the year 1900.

During the year ended June 30, 1902, the United States exported 199,442,907 pounds, valued at $19,019,841, to the United Kingdom; 173,517,891 pounds, valued at $16,262,251, to Germany; 30,404,880 pounds, valued at $2,874,857, to Belgium; 52,269,049 pounds, valued at $5,060,486, to the Netherlands; 7,552,774 pounds, valued at $657,164, to France; 11,480,356 pounds, valued at $1,043,187, to Denmark; 8,533,516 pounds, valued at $761,529, to Sweden and Norway; 31,637,548, pounds, valued at $2,723,825, to the West Indies; 10,194,268 pounds, valued at $1,059,556, to Brazil; 4,014,964 pounds, valued at $118,767, to Venezuela; 8,098,615 pounds, valued at $702,082, to Mexico.

The quantity of lard exported during the calendar year ended December 31, 1902, aggregated 496,335,444 pounds, valued at $50,101,577, as against 593,075,172 pounds, valued at $50,466,436 for the year preceding.

The exports of hams during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1902, aggregated 227,653,232 pounds, valued at $25,222,744, as against 216,571,803 pounds, valued at $22,842,778, exported during the preceding fiscal year; 196,401,702 pounds, valued at $20,414,702, exported during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900; 225,846,750 pounds, valued at $20,774,084 during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1899, and 200,185,861 pounds, valued at $18,987,525, during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1898.

Of the shipments during the last fiscal year, 209,390,263 pounds, valued at $22,569,633, were shipped to the United Kingdom; 6,648,096 pounds, valued at $674,814, to Belgium; 2,128,576 pounds, valued at $219,826, to Germany; 2,271,815 pounds, valued at $233,515, to the Netherlands; 3,107,179 pounds,

valued at $336,049, to the Dominion of Canada; 180,041 pounds, valued at $18,572, to France, and 6,915,680 pounds, valued at $703,111, to the West Indies.

The average export price of hams exported during the last fiscal year was 9.9 cents per pound, as against 9 cents for the preceding fiscal year and 8.4 cents for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900.

The exports of pork, salted or pickled, during the last fiscal year aggregated 115,896,275 pounds, valued at $10,117,562, as against 138,643,611 pounds, valued at $9,926,633, exported during the preceding fiscal year, and 133,199,683 pounds, valued at $8,243,797, exported during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900. The average export price during the last fiscal year was 8.7 cents per pound, as against 7.2 cents per pound during the preceding fiscal year and 6.2 cents per pound for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900.

Our exports of fresh pork during the last fiscal year were 44,171,674 pounds, valued at $3,652,464. Of this quantity 44,017,247 pounds were shipped to the United Kingdom; shipments to other portions of the world were therefore insignificant.

Of our exports of pork, salted or pickled, 54,487,290 pounds, valued at $5,005,663, were shipped to the United Kingdom; 8,671,775 pounds, valued at $719,438, to Germany; 8,277,773 pounds, valued at $714,704, to the Netherlands; 6,047,148 pounds, valued at $520,219, to Belgium; 4,111,229 pounds, valued at $349,324, to Sweden and Norway; 734,120 pounds, valued at $60,455, to Denmark; 2,900,091 pounds, valued at $228,477, to Newfoundland and Labrador; to British, Dutch and French Guiana, 3,216,446 pounds, valued at $271,845, were shipped; 6,963,627 pounds, valued at $519,724, to the Dominion of Canada; 15,740,788 pounds, valued at $1,336,123, to the West Indies.

The number of cattle exported during the fiscal year last past was 392,884, valued at $29,902,212; the number of hogs, 8,368, valued at $8,330; of horses 103,020, valued at $10,048,046; of mules 27,586, valued at $2,692,298; of sheep 358,720, valued at $1,940,060, showing a total valuation of $44,670,946, as against $52,058,876 exported during the preceding fiscal year; $43,858,031 during the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900, and $37,880,916 during the year ended June 30, 1899.

The following is a statement showing the United States exports and imports of horses from 1884 to 1902, inclusive; and also showing exports of mules and exports of horses and mules from 1892 to 1902, inclusive.

The following is a statement of the exports of horses from the United States, showing the number to Europe, to North America, to South Africa and to all other countries.

EXPORTS OF HORSES FROM THE UNITED STATES.

The value of our imports brought in American vessels was: In steam vessels, $87,734,899; in sailing vessels, $14,453, 103; and in foreign vessels, steam, $726,662,999; sailing, $18,103,236. The total value of our imports brought in American vessels amounted to $102,188,002; in foreign vessels $744,766,235 and by land vehicles $56,366,711. The total value of imports, by land and by water, amounted to $903,320,948. Twelve and one-tenth per cent. of our imports was brought in American vessels. In the year 1861, 60.1 per cent. of our imports was brought in American vessels.

The value of our exports shipped in American vessels for the year 1902 was $83,631,985 and in foreign vessels $1,174,263,079, making a total valuation, in American and foreign vessels, $1,257,895,064. Six and six-tenths per cent. of our exports were carried in American vessels. The value of our exports by land vehicles amounted for the year 1902 to $123,824,337, making a grand total of the value of our exports by land and by sea of $1,381,719,401.

American tonnage entered at seaports of the United States during the year 1902 aggregated 4,019,871 tons, and foreign, 20,341,564 tons. American tonnage cleared at seaports of the United States during the last year aggregated 3,955,515 tons, and foreign tonnage 20,286,589 tons.

The grand total of tonnage entered aggregated 24,361,435 tons, and the grand total of tonnage cleared aggregated 24,242,104 tons.
