and to thy dwelling; that I may go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness, and with my heart will I give thanks unto Thee, O God, my God. I will offer the sacrifice of righteousness, and put my trust in the Lord. O how plentiful is thy goodness which thou hast laid up for them that fear Thee, and that Thou hast prepared for them that put their trust in Thee; for Thou art gracious and merciful, long-suffering and of great goodness. Thou hast given me the defence of thy salvation; thou hast shown me the path of life, be thou also my guide, and lead me for thy name's sake. My trust is in thy mercy, and my heart is joyful in thy salvation. All thy works praise Thee, and thy saints give thanks unto Thee; they show the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of Thy power: Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages. Salvation and honour, and glory and power, be unto Thee, O Lord, and unto the Lamb for ever!

THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION.

ALMIGHTY GOD, our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption; who made there (by his one oblation of himself, once offered) a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world, and did institute, and in his holy gospel command us, to continue a perpetual memory of that his precious death, until his coming again; hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech Thee, and grant that we, receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood; who in the same night that he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you: do

Amen.

PRAYER AFTER THE CONSECRATION.

ALMIGHTY LORD, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who didst ordain this Sacrament for a perpetual memorial of that all-sufficient Sacrifice which once thou madest for us on the cross; I beseech Thee of thine infinite mercy to accept this my obedience to thy command; and this renewed dedication which I now make of myself unto Thy service. Grant that I may participate of this holy mystery with such devotion, that, by the merits and powers thereof, I may become partaker of all the benefits of thy most precious death, and resurrection, and glorious as cension into heaven; and give me thy

grace, that I may ever remember with such humility and gratitude thy transcendent love to mankind in thus dying for them, and the great atonement thus made, that the sense of thy sufferings may awaken in me a due abhorrence of sin, and my faith in thy promises may encourage my supplications at the Throne of Mercy for pardon and peace; and I beseech Thee, assist my endeavours in the ways of repentance and holiness, that during the rest of my pilgrimage here I may walk worthy of the faith I profess, and at the general resurrection may be admitted to dwell with Thee for ever. Amen.

PRAYER ON GOING TO THE ALTAR.

I APPROACH thy holy Table, O Lord, deeply sensible of my own unworthiness. How inconsiderable is the good which I do! how innumerable are the failings I daily commit! how shall a sinner dare to appear before Thee, who art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity! Thou mightest consume me in a moment, but

in thy wrath Thou thinkest upon mercy; and though the iniquities of thy people testify against them, yet Thou, O Lord, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name: Thou hast assured us of pardon upon the terms of thy gospel: I come to thee, therefore, O blessed Jesus, as thy disciple, declaring my belief in Thee as the Son of God and Redeemer of mankind. Blessed be thy goodness which moved Thee to humble thyself to the death of the cross, that we might be lifted up to immortal life. Salvation belongeth unto Thee, and let thy blessing be upon thy servant. I would devote myself for ever to thy love and obedience, and I beseech Thee to assist me with thy grace; give me the increase of faith, hope, and charity; be my guide and governor unto death, my comfort and support in my dying hour, and my everlasting portion and happiness in the life to come. Amen.
