A FEW WORDS TO THE LITTLE ONES.

DEAR CHILDREN,

HE "CHILD'S PICTURE STORY BOOK" has been prepared as a gift or reward for the GooD LITTLE ONES.

It requires a good deal of care and hard work to make such books, and children ought to know how much pains is taken for their sakes.

Books are written by those who have been industrious over their studies in the nursery and at schoolwho by hard work get to know more than their companions, and are thus able to teach and to instruct others; then the Pictures, that please every one so much, have to be drawn by people who by their industry have become so clever, that they can make us laugh or almost cry, as they desire, then the clever people who put all the little letters together to make up the words, and the careful printers who have to print them: when all this is done,

which occupies much time and costs so much money, then comes the binder, who folds the sheets of paper, stitches them together, and puts on the pretty cover, which is neatly ornamented with gold letters.

Now, all this is done to please and amuse you, and that you may become wise and good; so learn to love your books, and to remember the good words they teach you, that in after-time you may be amongst the workers who shall prepare good things for other little children, who will take your places when the busy hands who now write books and draw pictures for you shall have passed away, and gone to dwell with the GOOD FATHER.

Now carefully read what this little book has to say for itself, and when you have done so, kiss and love the kind friend who sent it, and sometimes think of the busy hands that made it.
