his body; for He said, "Thou hast both seen Him, and it is He that talketh with thee." And now, Phebe, what did the poor man say to this?

P. “Lord, I believe; and he worshipped Him."

U. What an instant way he had of shewing his faith! He worshipped Jesus, that is, he fell down before Him, and gave Him that worship which is due to God only; and thereby he shewed that he believed that Jesus was 66 Son of God;" for Jesus had said Himself, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and

Him only shalt thou serve. This man believed, and he was healed. Jesus said to him, "Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash."

He

did so, and he said, "I went and washed, and I received sight.”

P. Why this was like the way in which Naaman was cured, Uncle?

U. In most of the miracles that we have talked about, we see that Jesus gave His help

to those who came, who believed, and who obeyed His words, "Him that cometh I will in no wise cast out;" and you have heard enough to prove how true this was of those who came to be healed. I hope you will never forget that all the miracles are told us for our learning, that we may not be like the poor, unbelieving Jews; but that we may follow the examples of all those who came to the Great Physician in the full faith that He was able and willing to heal them. We shall talk about one more miracle of Jesus before we begin to see what miracle the same Jesus must do for us, even for the youngest child that lives. When I see you again, we shall find Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead to life again; proving, indeed, that "all power was given unto Him" to raise the dead as well as to cleanse the leper, or to give sight to the blind.

CHAPTER V.

"Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?"

U. I SHALL tell you about one more miracle, to shew you the love of Jesus and the unbelief of the Jewish nation. It shall be the wondrous story of Christ raising Lazarus from the dead. It is told in rather a long chapter, but I think that we can give such a short account of it as shall be quite enough for our purpose. Was Jesus able to cure all sorts of people, Phebe ?

P. I think He was, Uncle; for the Bible says, that "they brought to Him all sick people," and He healed them.

U. Yes; the deaf, the dumb, the lepers,

the blind, the palsied, those who had fevers, and even the very dead themselves, were all alike to Jesus; "all power was given unto Him," and it was His delight to restore them to health and life.

Who can tell me what are the first words with which a minister meets the poor dead body of a man, a woman,—yes, and even of a little child, when it is going to be laid in the silent grave? Walter must turn this time to his Prayer-book, and read to us the first sentence from the beautiful service "for the burial of the dead."

W. "I am the Resurrection and the Life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."

P. I know who said that, Uncle. Jesus said so to Martha when she was telling Him of the death of her brother Lazarus.

U. Emma must tell us where this family

lived, and where we shall find this miracle

written.

Em. In Bethany, Uncle; and the story is told us in the 11th chapter of St. John's Gospel.

U. Bethany was a village about two miles away from Jerusalem, and it was there that Jesus used frequently to visit the family whom

He loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Can Emma tell us whether we hear of this Mary any where else in the Bible?

Em. Yes, Uncle; it says that it was "that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair.”

W. That was when Jesus was sitting at meat in the house of Simon the leper.

U. And you remember that Jesus said of her that "wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial (or remembrance) of her." But now we are going to tell of the time when sickness and death entered the family, and took away
