SPRING.

OH! it is Spring! it is Spring! let us away to the woods, and see if the primroses and violets are come. O! the soft, fresh breezes, how they kiss my cheek. How glad I feel. Here we are in the pleasant green wood; and the buds are bursting into leaf-and the flowers are springing up out of the earth-and the birds are building in the trees-and all

things seem happy, and so are we. O! I have found a peep-hole in the hedge, and what do I see? I see snow white lambs, happy, frisking and leaping; they are so glad. Sweet Spring! thou fillest our laps with flowers, and our hearts with joy; and makest all creatures happy.

THE DEAD SQUIRREL.

"DID you ever see a squirrel, Lucy ?" "O! yes! you know uncle Edward used to keep one, and very fond I was of it; but, poor little thing, it died, and I shall never forget how I wept when I went one morning to his little house, and found him lying with his pretty black eyes quite dim, and his once nimble feet stiff and cold.
