2.

HE that keepeth his mouth keepeth his

life.

Prov. xiii. 3.

Guard well thy lips, none, none can know
What evil from the tongue may flow;
What guilt, what grief may be incurr'd
By one incautious, hasty word.

ATCH and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.

St. Matt. xxvi. 41.

Gird thy heavenly armour on,
Wear it ever, night and day;
Near thee lurks the evil one :-
Therefore watch and pray.

DOUBTL

OUBTLESS Thou art our Father.
Isa. lxiii. 16.

There are who sigh that no fond heart is theirs, None loves them best-O vain and selfish sigh! Out of the bosom of His love He spares

The Father spares the Son, for thee to die : For thee He died-for thee He lives again : O'er thee He watches in His boundless reign.

5.

ABIDE with us.

T

St. Luke xxiv. 29.

Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without Thee I cannot live:
Abide with me when night nigh,
For without Thee I dare not die.

6.

The Epiphany.

HE people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isa. ix. 2.

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning!
Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid!
Star of the east, the horizon adorning,

Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid!

Cold on His cradle the dew-drops are shining,
Low lies His head with the beasts of the stall;

Angels adore Him in slumber reclining,
Maker, and Monarch, and Saviour of all!

7.

COMMIT thy way unto the Lord.

Commit thy ways to Him,

Ps. xxxvii. 5.

Thy works into His hands,

And rest on His unchanging Word,
Who heaven and earth commands.

N the world ye shall have tribulation : but be of good cheer; I have overSt. John xvi. 33.

come the world.

Crosses and trials are our lot
Through all our sojourn here;
But, Saviour, since Thou changest not,
Thy saints should never fear.

9.

HE hath done all things well.

St. Mark vii. 37.

No longer doubt, nor fear, nor grieve,
Nor on uncertain evils dwell:

Past, present, future, calmly leave
To Him who doeth all things well.

IO.

HE hath made every thing beautiful in

his time.

Eccles. iii. II.

Then never turn we from the tasks which changing seasons bring,

Or waste the good or miss the joy that doth from each one spring.

So all more bright and gladsome wintry hours will

pass away,

And all more sweetly will return the long fair

summer's day.

HERE is one body, and one Spirit,
even as ye are called in one hope
of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one
baptism, one God and Father of all, who
is above all, and through all, and in you
all.
Eph. iv. 4-6.

And surely in a world like this,
So rife with woe, so scant of bliss,
Where fondest hopes are oftenest cross'd,
And fondest hearts are sever'd most,
'Tis something that we kneel and pray
With loved ones near and far away;
One God, one faith, one hope, one care,
One form of words, one hour of prayer.

AND both Jesus was called, and His disciples, to the marriage.

St. John ii. 2.

The world, with all its goodliest gains,
Home, with its calmest rest;
Life's heaviest and life's lightest hours,
Without Him are unblest.

He shares our griefs, let us our joys
With Him devoutly share;
And every festive day we keep,
Be our Redeemer there!

13.

WRITE unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

1 John ii. 13.

Why should we fear, youth's draught of joy,
If pure, would sparkle less?

Why should the cup the sooner cloy,
Which God hath deign'd to bless?

14.

HEY shall walk with Me in white: for

T

they are worthy.

Rev. iii. 4.

Lo! these are they from sufferings great
Who came to realms of light;

And in the blood of Christ have wash'd
Those robes which shine so bright.

15.

TOW therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens

with the saints, and of the houshold of Eph. ii. 19.

God.

The hill of Zion yields

A thousand sacred sweets,

Before we reach the heavenly fields,
Or walk the golden streets.
