25.

St. James the Apostle.

TO sit on My right hand, and on My left, is not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of My Father. St. Matt. xx. 23.

But for the crown, that Angels weave

For those next Me in glory placed,

I give it not by partial love;

But in My Father's book are writ
What names on earth shall lowliest prove,
That they in Heaven may highest sit.

What is our work when God a blessing would impart ? To bring the empty vessel of a needy heart.

thee, nor forsake thee.

Wiser it were to welcome and make ours

Whate'er of good, though small, the present bringsKind greetings, sunshine, song of birds, and flowers,

With a child's pure delight in little things;

And of the griefs unborn to rest secure,
Knowing that mercy ever will endure.

thee whole.
St. Matt. ix. 22.

Oh Thou wilt give, when sorrow pleads,

'Good comfort' to the soul;

The healing it so sorely needs,

The faith which makes it whole.

healing in His wings.

Open our eyes, Thou Sun of life and gladness,
That we may see that glorious world of Thine!
It shines for us in vain, while drooping sadness
Enfolds us here like mist: come, Power benign,
Touch our chill'd hearts with vernal smile,
Our wintry course do Thou beguile,

Nor by the wayside ruins let us mourn,

Who have th' eternal towers for our appointed bourne.

Give me a calm and thankful heart,
From every murmur free;
The blessings of Thy grace impart ;
And make me live to Thee.

HAVING therefore, brethren, boldness

to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, . . . let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith.

Heb. x. 19. 22.

Though faint my prayers, and cold my love,
My stedfast hope shall not remove,

While Jesus intercedes above.

ODLINESS is profitable unto all things.

'Tis religion that can give

Sweetest pleasure while we live;
'Tis religion can supply

Solid comfort when we die.

O make Thy precepts sweet to me
By Thy good Spirit's gentle sway,
And let my feet be led by Thee

In Thine own true and perfect way.
Thy precepts are my life's true bliss,
At once its rule and happiness.

HE said unto her son, Bring me yet a

vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. 2 Kings iv. 6.

Pour forth the oil, pour boldly forth,

It will not fail until

Thou failest vessels to provide,

Which it may largely fill.

For we must share, if we would keep,
That good thing from above;
Ceasing to give, we cease to have-
Such is the law of Love.

I KNOW their sorrows.

Exod. iii. 7.

It is enough, my gracious Lord,
Thy tender sympathy!

There is no sorrow e'er so slight
But I may bring to Thee.

Would'st thou the life of souls discern?

Nor human wisdom nor divine

Helps thee by aught beside to learn;
Love is life's only sign.
