Arabic Compound Words. $ 693. There are many compound words in use in Ottoman, composed of two Arabic words. They are connected together either according to the Arabic or the Persian systems of Izafét (SS 515, 668). The majority of such words are composed according to the Persian system.

But there are some Arabic words which are in frequent use in Ottoman in composition with other words of Arabic origin. Their use will be best understood from the following examples:
