through Christ.-Luke xix. 10, For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.` John iii. 16, 17, God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish', but have everlasting life` : For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world'; but that the world through him might be saved. Acts iv. 12, Neither is there salvation' in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men' whereby we must be saved. Acts v. 30, 31, The God of our fathers raised up Jesus`, whom ye slew', and hanged on a tree` : Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel', and forgiveness of sins. Acts xiii. 38, 39, Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you' the forgiveness of sins` : And by him all that believe are justified' from all things, from which ye could not be justified' by the law of Moses`. Rom. iii. 24, Being justified freely by his grace', through the redemption' that is in Christ Jesus'; iv. 25, Jesus was delivered for our offences', and was raised again for our justification`; v. 15, But not as the offence', so also is the free gift`. For if through the offence of one many be dead'; much more the grace of God', and the gift by grace', which is by one man, Jesus Christ', hath abounded' unto many; 19, By the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Gal. iv. 4, 5, But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman', made under the law, to redeem them

that were under the law', that we might receive the adoption of sons'. Eph. i. 7, In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins`, according to the riches' of his grace. 1 Thes. v. 9, 10, For God hath not appointed us to wrath', but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ', who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep' we should live together with him. 2 Tim. i. 10, Our Saviour Jesus Christ hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light' through the gospel. Heb. ix. 28, Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for him' shall he appear the second time without sin' unto salvation. 1 Pet. ii. 24, Who his own self` bare our sins' in his own body' on the tree', that we, being dead to sins', should live unto righteousness': by whose stripes ye were healed'. Rev. i. 5, 6, Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests/ unto God and his Father', to him be glory' and dominion' for ever and ever'. 2. That Salvation is received by faith.-Hab. ii. 4, Behold his soul which is lifted up' is not upright in him`: but the just` shall live by his faith. John i. 12, As many as received him', to them gave he power to become the sons of God', even to them' that believe on his name`; iii. 18, He that believeth on him is not condemned'; but he that believeth not is condemned already', because he hath not believed in the name' of the only begotten Son of God'. Rom. iii.

25-28, Whom God hath set forth to be a propitia. tion' through faith in his blood', to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God'; to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness`; that he might be just`, and the justifier of him' who believeth in Jesus'. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law`? of works'? Nay; but by the law of faith`. Therefore we conclude, that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Rom. iv. 5, But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly', his faith is counted for righteousness. Rom. x. 4, Christ is the end of the law' for righteousness' to every one that believeth`. Gal. ii. 16, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law', but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ', that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law': for by the works of the law' shall no flesh be justified'; iii. 11, 12, But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God', it is evident': for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith': but, The man that doeth them shall live in them; 26, For ye are all the children of God' by faith in Christ Jesus'. Eph. ii. 8, For by grace are ye saved through faith`; and that not of yourselves': it is the gift of God.

IX. THE BLESSINGS OF SALVATION.

1. Pardon.-Ps. xxxii. 1, 2, Blessed is he whose

transgression is forgiven, whose sin' is covered`; blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity`, and in whose spirit' there is no guile`; compare with Rom. iv. 6-8. Ps. ciii. 2, 3, Bless the Lord, O my soul', and forget not all his benefits` : who forgiveth all thine iniquities'; who healeth' all thy diseases`; cxxx. 4, There is forgiveness with thee', that thou mayest be feared'. Isa. i. 18, Come now, and let us reason together', saith the Lord` : Though your sins be as scarlet', they shall be as write as snow; though they be red like crimson', they shall be as wool'. Isa. xliii. 25, I, even I', am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Mic. vii. 18, Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity,' and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever', because he delighteth in mercy. Eph. iv. 32, And be ye kind one to another`, tender-hearted`, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you'. Ccl. i. 14, In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Heb. x. 17, 18, And their sins' and their iniquities' will I remember no more`. Now, where remission of these is', there is no more offering for sin`.

2. Purity. Ezek. xxxvi. 25-27, Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you', and ye shall be clean`: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols', will I cleanse you'; a new heart' also will I give you', and

a new spirit' will I put within you`; and I will take away the stony heart' out of your flesh', and I will give you an heart of flesh`; and I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes`, and ye shall keep my judgments', and do them`. Eph. v. 25-27, Christ loved the church', and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse` it with the washing of water by the word`; that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle', or any such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish'. Titus ii. 11-14, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation' hath appeared to all men', Teaching us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts', we should live soberly', righteously', and godly', in this present world`; Looking for that blessed hope', and the glorious appearing of the great God' and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity', and purify unto himself a peculiar people', zealous of good works`. Heb. xiii. 20, 21, Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead' our Lord Jesus', that great' Shepherd of the sheep', through the blood of the everlasting covenant`; Make you perfect in every good work' to do his will`, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight', through Jesus Christ`; to whom be glory for ever' and ever`.
