3. Proof of Love.-John xiv. 15, If ye love me', keep my commandments'. 21, He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me'; and he that loveth me' shall be loved of my Father'; and I will love him', and will manifest myself to him. 23, Jesus answered, and said unto him', If a man love me', he will keep my words: and my Father will love him', and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 1 John v. 3, For this is the love of God' that we keep his commandments`; and his commandments' are not griev

4. To fear God.-Deut. x. 12, 13, And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee', but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways`,

and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart', and with all thy soul', To keep the commandments of the Lord', and his statutes`, which I command thee this day', for thy good? 1 Sam. xii. 24, Only fear the Lord`, and serve him in truth' with all your heart: for consider how great things' he hath done for you. Ps. ii. 11, Serve the Lord' with fear, and rejoice' with trembling`; xcvi. 9, O worship the Lord' in the beauty of holiness`: fear before him', all the earth. Prov. iii. 7, Be not wise in thine own eyes': fear the Lord', and depart from evil. Eccles. xii. 13, Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter; Fear God', and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man'. Isa. viii. 13, Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. Luke xii. 5, I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear` : Fear him, which, after he hath killed', hath power to cast into hell`; yea, I say unto you', Fear him`.

5. Encouragements to fear God.-Ps. xxxi. 19, 20, Oh how great is thy goodness', which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee`; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee' before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence' from the pride of man'; thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion' from the strife of tongues`. xxxiii. 18, 19, Behold the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him', upon them' that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death', and to keep them alive in famine`. xxxiv. 7, The angel of

the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him', and delivereth them`; 9, O fear the Lord' ye his saints: for there is no want' to them that fear him'. ciii. 11, For as the heaven is high above the earth', so great is his mercy towards them that fear him`. 13, Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that`fear him`. 17, The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting` to everlasting upon them that fear him`, and his righteousness' unto children's children'. cxi. 5, He hath given meat' unto them that fear him': he will ever be mindful of his covenant`. cxlv. 19, He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry', and will save them. cxlvii. 11, The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope' in his mercy. Prov. xv. 16, Better is little with the fear of the Lord', than great treasure', and trouble therewith`. 6. To trust in Him.-Ps. xxxvii. 3, Trust in the Lord', and do good', so shalt thou dwell in the land', and verily thou shalt be fed. at all times', ye people', pour him': God is a refuge for us.

lxii. 8, Trust in him out your heart' before Prov. iii. 5, 6, Trust

in the Lord with all thine heart', and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him', and he shall direct thy paths`.

7. Encouragements to trust in Him.-2 Sam. xxii. 31, As for God', his way is perfect; the word of the Lord' is tried: he is a buckler' to all them that trust in him`. Ps. xxii. 4, 5, Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them'. They cried unto thee', and were delivered: they trusted in thee', and were not confounded'. xxxvii. 40, And the Lord shall help them', and deliver them; he shall deliver them from the wicked', and save them'; because they trust in him. xl. 4, Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud', nor such as turn aside to lies'. cxviii. 8, 9, It is better to trust in the Lord', than to put confidence in man': It is better to trust in the Lord', than to put confidence in princes'. cxxv. 1, They that trust in the Lord' shall be as Mount Zion', which cannot be removed', but abideth for ever. Prov. xvi. 20, He that handleth a matter wisely' shall find good; and whoso trusteth in the Lord', happy is he`. Isa. xxvi. 3, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace', whose mind is stayed on thee';

because he trusteth in thee'. 4, Trust ye in the Lord' for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah' is everlasting strength. Jer. xvii. 7, Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord', and whose hope the Lord is`. Nahum i. 7, The Lord is good', a strong hold' in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him'.

8. God requires us to pray to him.—(1.) Sincerely. -Ps. lxvi. 18, If I regard iniquity in my heart', the Lord will not hear me. cxlv. 18, The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him' in truth. Isa. xxix. 13, 14, Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth`, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men': Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work' and a wonder'; for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish', and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid`.

(2.) Earnestly.-Neh. i. 6, Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open', that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night', for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel', which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned. Ps. xxii. 19, Be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my
