Physical education for preschool and elementary school students can be more purposeful and far-reaching than often believed. In this innovative guide, new approaches are presented by teachers in the field as well as theorists in the classroom. Topics include: *analyses of the best ways to teach games *an interdisciplinary approach to games *games of different cultures *increasing developmentally appropriate behavior through games *game activities which increase fitness and leisure pursuits Each topic is illustrated, and sample activities and implementation strategies are provided.

Drawing upon the experience of many of the country's leaders in physical education, this guide offers those who teach elementary school children a variety of approaches. The volume should be an excellent resource book for school and public libraries as well as a text for teacher training programs in physical education and elementary education.
