IV.

The thought of home his spirit cheers,
No more he grieves for troubles past;
Nor any future trial fears,

So he may safe arrive at last.

V.

'Tis there, he says, I am to dwell
With JESUS in the realms of day:
Then I shall bid my cares farewell,
And he will wipe my tears away.

VI.

JESUS, on thee our hope depends,
To lead us on to thine abode:
Assur'd our home will make amends
For all our toil upon the road.

HYMN CCXXXVII. L. M.
Sinner's Plea and Prayer.

PITY

1.

a helpless sinner, LORD,

Who would believe thy gracious word; But own my heart, with shame and grief, A sink of sin and unbelief.

11.

LORD, in thy house, I hear there's room,
And vent'ring hard, behold I come;
But can there, tell me, can there be,
Amongst thy children, room for me?

III.

For sinners, LORD, thou cam'st to bleed:
And I'm a sinner, vile indeed!

Will and must become usurpers,
If thyself be not within:
Come, LORD JESUS,

Let thy glorious train be seen.

IV.

Set apart this humble dwelling,
Here erect thy throne of state;
Faith and ev'ry grace attending,
Shall around thy footstool wait;
Thou their Sov'reign,

Thou their only potentate.

V.

Known by all to be thy mansion,
Earth and hell will disappear;
Or in vain attempt possession,
When they find the LORD so near.
Shout, O Zion,

Shout, ye saints, the LORD is here.

HYMN CCXXII.

L. M.

The kingdom of Immanuel exalted.

WH

I.

THEN JESUS first at heaven's command, Descended from his azure throne; Attending angels join'd his praise, Who claim'd the kingdoms for his own. Hail Immanuel! Immanuel we'll adore, And sound his fame from shore to shore.

II.

Girt with omnipotence and grace,
The powers of darkness trembling stood

V.

Where are those we counted leaders,
Fill'd with zeal, and love, and truth?
Old professors, tall as cedars,
Bright examples to our youth!
Lord, &c.

VI.

Some in whom we once delighted,
We shall meet no more below;
Some, alas! we fear are blighted,
Scarce a single leaf they show.
Lord, &c.

VII.

Younger plants-the sight how pleasant!
Cover'd thick with blossoms stood;
But they cause us grief at present,
Frosts have nipp'd them in the bud!
Lord, &e.

Dearest SAVIOUR hasten hither,
Thou canst make them bloom again;
O, permit them not to wither,
Let not all our hopes be vain,
Lord, &c.

IX.

Let our mutual love be fervent,
Make us prevalent in pray'rs ;
Let each one, esteem'd thy servant,
Shun the world's bewitching snares.
Lord, &c.

X.

Break the tempter's fatal pow'r,
Turn the stony heart to flesh!
And begin, from this good hour,
To revive thy work afresh.
Lord, revive us,

All our help must come from thee.

HYMN CCXXXIX. L. M.
Not ashamed of Jesus.

1.

JESUS, and shall it ever be of thee!

Asham'd of thee, whom angels praise, Whose glories shine through endless days!

II.

Asham'd of JESUS! sooner far
Let ev'ning blush to own a star;
Asham'd of JESUS! just as soon
Let midnight be asham'd of noon.

III.

Asham'd of JESUS! that dear friend,
On whom my hopes of heav'n depend,
No when I blush be this my shame,
That I no more revere his name.

IV.

Asham'd of JESUS! yes, I may,
When I've no guilt to wash away,
No tear to wipe, no good to crave,
No fears to quell, no soul to save.

V.

Till then-nor is my boasting vain,
Till then, I boast a SAVIOUR slain!
And O may this my glory be,
That CHRIST is not asham'd of me!

HYMN CCXL. L. M.

Saints brought out of great tribulation.

EXA

I.

XALTED high, at Gop's right hand, Nearer the throne than cherubs stand, With glory crown'd in white array, My wond'ring soul says, Who are they!

II.

These are the saints belov'd of God;
Wash'd are their robes in Jesus' blood;
More spotless than the purest white,
They shine in uncreated light.

III.

Brighter than angels, lo! they shine ;
Their glories great, and all divine;
Tell me their origin, and say,

Their order what, and whence come they?

IV.

Through tribulation great they came;
They bore the cross, and scorn'd the shame:
Within the living temple blest,

In Gop they dwell, and on him rest.

V.

And does the cross thus prove their gain !
And shall they thus for ever reign?
