his sake be thou pleased to pity us, and spare us, and forgive us, and grant us that peace which passeth all understanding.

And because such is the infirmity of our nature, that without thy grace we have not power to keep ourselves even from the greatest sins, O do thou, heavenly Father, fortify us against all temptation, and make us willing and faithful, and diligent in thy service. So discover and manifest thyself to our souls, that we may know aright thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. Enable us to live and practise, according to that knowledge of our duty which thou art pleased to impart, that we may not hold the truth in unrighteousness, but may walk in the light, as children of light, while we have it, that we may never in judgment be deprived of it. Let us not only be almost, but altogether Christians, sincere converts, true penitents and sound believers. And wilt thou, O God, that workest all in all, do the work of thy grace thoroughly upon our hearts, for which we may have cause to give thee praise and glory to all eternity.

The same things also we beg, O Lord, in behalf of all that ought to share in our prayers. O forgive the sins, and relieve the miseries of thy poor creatures every where. Grant that all who are called christians, may be truly christian, both in right believing, and holy living. Advance the interests, and extend the limits of thy Son's king

dom, and may all nations flow into it, as to their rest. Bless our land, and endue those who direct public affairs, with wisdom from ou high. Make them all men fearing God, and eschewing evil. May all who are called to serve at thy altar, be blessed with compassionate hearts, and holy, exemplary lives. Make them wise to win souls, and faithful, industrious, and successful in their sacred office. Remember them all for good, who have been any way instruments of our good; and all that have, or would hurt us, O Lord forgive them. Give unto all that mourn in Zion, beauty for ashes, and the garments of praise for the spirit of heaviness. And in the time of our health and prosperity, may we remember, and provide for the time of trouble, and sickness, and death, when all worldly succor will fail us, and the greatest powers on earth cannot deliver us from thy just retribution. Make us now so mindful of our duty, that thou mayest then be with us in mercy, and never leave nor forsake us. Which we beg for the all-sufficient merits of Jesus Christ, our only Redeemer; to whom, with thee, O Father, and the Holy Ghost the Comforter, be all praise, and honor, and glory, now and for evermore. Amen.

Our Father, &c.

Saturday Evening.

ECCLES. xii. 13.-Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter; Fear God, and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. AcTs xvii. 31.-Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom he hath ordained: whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 2 PETER iii. 7.-The heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are therein shall be burned up. MARK Xiii. 26.-And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven. REV. XX. 11.-And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 2 PETER iii. 11.-Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Wherefore beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

ALMIGHTY GOD, who alone art able to help our infirmities, pour down upon us the spirit of grace and supplication, teach us so to pray, that we may be heard and answered, through the mediation of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We venture to present ourselves before thee, O Lord, laden as we are with the guilt of all the sins of this week, and of our past lives, because thou art long-suffering, and of great pity, forgiving iniquity, and transgression, and sin. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so great let thy mercy be towards us. Far as the east is from the west, so far do thou remove our transgressions from us. Having adopted us into thy family, O take away our guilt; and reconcile us unto thyself through the blood of thy beloved Son.

We pray thee, also, O Lord, to discover to us more of the evil of sin, that we may know more of thy grace and mercy in pardoning it; and more of the loving-kindness of God our Saviour in dying to redeem us from it. Grant that the old Adam may be so buried, that the new man may be raised up in us. Grant that all carnal affections may die in us; and that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow in us. Grant that we may have power and strength to have victory, and to triumph against the devil, the world, and the flesh..

Defend us, O God, our preserver, through the night season. When we lie down on our beds, may we commune with our own hearts, and think

of all thy goodness towards us. And may we awake in the morning, filled with a due sense of thy mercies, and with sincere purposes of living to thy glory. May the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in us, and quicken us in all the duties of thy holy day. Raise our thoughts from the things of this world, and fix them upon those things which are above, where Christ sitteth at thy right hand. Help us fervently to join the prayers and praises of thy people in the courts of thy sanctuary, to guard our hearts, to sanctify our conversation, to worship thee in the family and in the closet, and to feel the power of thy divine word.

O let not our past abuse of thy Sabbaths, and of thy other mercies, provoke thee to take from us the strivings of thy Holy Spirit. But rather, do thou give unto us true repentance, and a greater measure of strength from above; that we may stir up the gift of God that is in us, and be quickened to greater diligence in improving the means of grace and salvation.

Holy Father, vouchsafe these, and all other spiritual mercies to the whole race of mankind. Put thy fear in the hearts of those who have no fear of thee before their eyes. May they tremble at the thought, that thou, O God, knowest them, and wilt render unto every one according to his deeds. Keep thy household, the Church, in continual godliness; that, through thy protection, it
