A Prayer for Wednesday Morning.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most Highest ;

To tell of thy loving-kindness early in the morning, and of thy truth in the night-season;

Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the lute: upon a loud instrument, and upon the harp:

For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy works; and I will rejoice in giving praise for the operations of thy hands.

O Lord, how glorious are thy works; thy thoughts are very deep.

An unwise man doth not well consider this, and a fool doth not understand it.

When the ungodly are green as the grass, and when all the workers of wickedness do flourish, then shall they be destroyed for ever; but thou, Lord, art the Most Highest for

evermore.

The righteous shall flourish like a palm-tree, and shall spread abroad like a cedar in Libanus.

Such as are planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of the house of our God.

They also shall bring forth more fruit in their age, and shall be fat and well liking;

That they may show how true the Lord my strength is, and that there is no unrighteousness in him.

O MOST gracious God, who art the author of all the good things that I enjoy; to thy good providence I owe it, that I am now in health and safety; that I have enjoyed the comfortable refreshments of the night past, and that none of those evils which I have justly deserved, have come nigh me, or my

dwelling. For these, O Lord, and for all thy other mercies, I desire to adore and bless thy glorious name, humbly beseeching thee to accept this my morning sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. O Lord! there is nothing that I desire so much as to be of the number of thy faithful servants; to this end grant that a due sense of thy mercies may be so deeply impressed upon my mind, that I may love thee above all things, and manifest the sincerity of that love, by a constant and habitual care to do what is pleasing in thy sight. Vouchsafe me the assistance of thy good Spirit, to enable me to withstand the temptations of this wicked world, and to meet with courage and resolution, all the trials of my christian warfare. May I never have any fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, nor grieve thy blessed Spirit by any sinful desires; but as I have given up myself to the obedience of my great Lord and Master, so teach me to walk as in his presence, to conform myself to his Spirit, and to imitate his example.

Let my conversation be always such as becometh the Gospel; and grant that I may daily endeavor to mortify my corrupt inclinations, and to bring every inordinate desire to the obedience of thy will. In the use of honest and lawful means, give me grace to depend upon thy providence, and to rest contented under all the dispensations of thy infinite wisdom and goodness. But, O gracious Father, leave me not destitute of those things that

accompany salvation, nor deny me thy favor, which is better than life itself. Take not from me the comforts of thy Holy Spirit; but in all the disappointments and trials I shall meet with here, be thou my refuge and support, my Saviour and mighty deliverer. Especially, O Lord, I beseech thee, when the time of my dissolution draws nigh, and all things here begin to fail me, vouchsafe thou to strengthen and comfort me, and at last receive me into thy blessed kingdom.

Be thou pleased, of thy great goodness, O Lord, to direct and sanctify, preserve and prosper me. Let thy watchful Providence be my guard and defence. Keep me in thy faith, and fear, and love, all the day long, and may I take nothing in hand, speak nothing, think and desire nothing, but what is agreeable to thy blessed will. And carry me safely through the dangers and temptations of this world of sorrow, to that place of everlasting rest and peace, which thou hast prepared for thy faithful servants, through the merits of thy beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our Father, &c.

A Prayer for Wednesday Evening.

Whoso dwelleth under the defence of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say unto the Lord, Thou art my hope and my strong hold, my God, in him will I trust.

For he shall deliver thee from the snare of the hunter, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall defend thee under his wings, and thou shalt be safe under his feathers; his faithfulness and truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for any terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

For the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor for the sickness that destroyeth in the noon-day.

A thousand shall fall beside thee, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Yea, with thine eyes shalt thou behold, and see the reward of the ungodly.

For thou, Lord, art my hope; thou hast set thine house of defence very high.

There shall no evil happen unto thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

They shall bear thee in their hands, that thou hurt not thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt go upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shalt thou tread under thy feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him up, because he hath known my

name.

He shall call upon me, and I will hear him; yea, I am with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honor.

With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

O MOST glorious and ever-living God, who inhabitest eternity, and dwellest in that light which no mortal eye can approach unto, I lament and bewail the corruption of my nature, and my manifold sins and transgressions. Notwithstanding all thy gracious dispensations towards me, I have neither loved thee, served thee, nor obeyed thee, as I ought to have done. The cares and pleasures of this life occupy my thoughts, and make me cold and remiss in the great work of my salvation. Where shall I fly for succor but unto thee, who art a God of infinite love and pity! O pity my weaknesses, and forgive and wash away all my sins, in the blood of the immaculate Lamb, Christ Jesus; that neither those which I have this day committed, nor any other follies of my life past, may ever be had in remembrance before thee. Reserve not my sins to be punished in the day of thy fierce displeasure, but bury them all in the depth of thy everlasting mercy, that they may never rise up to my confusion here, nor my condemnation hereafter. Look upon me, O Lord, as a reconciled Father in Christ Jesus. Speak peace unto my conscience, and say unto my soul, I am the God of thy salvation.

But, O Lord, I not only beg the pardon of my transgressions, but entreat thee, who hast promised thy Holy Spirit to them that ask it, to enable me to forsake every evil way, and to walk before thee in newness of life. Let not sin reign in my mortal body, nor any sinful desires have possession of my
