FOR RAIN.

O LORD, who hast sent a gracious rain upon thy inheritance, to refresh the dry and thirsty land, and cause it to yield its increase; thou hast given me a joyful opportunity of serving and praising thee in the abundance of the provisions which thou art pleased thus to make for us. O that men would praise thee for thy goodness, and for thy wonderful works to the children of men. O good God, to thy name be all the glory rendered now and eternally.

FOR FAIR WEATHER.

LORD, who hast in mercy shut the windows of heaven, and put a stop to the overflowing showers that threatened to drown the fruits of the earth, I bless thee that thou hast caused this sweet and comfortable change to refresh thy unworthy servants, and to make all the creatures rejoice in thy goodness. Blessed be our God, that deals so graciously with us; and glory be to thy name, thou great withholder of all evils, and giver of all good. Let the people praise thee, O God, let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

FOR THE CESSATION OF PESTILENCE.

O THOU great preserver of men, who hast delivered my soul from the grave, and kept me, that I should

not go down to the pit; the jaws of death were open upon me, and my heart was failing for fear of the raging destruction, when the air was to so many the sad messenger of death. Thousands have fallen on every side of me, and it has not come nigh me. But I have dwelt in the secret places of the Most High, and, under the shadow of the Almighty, have been kept in safety. O what shall I say, what shall I give unto thee, my present help, and only Saviour, in time of trouble. I am every way thine, O Lord, and to thee only be all the glory. I bless thee, my God, as one that is made alive from the dead. O that my heart may be deeply affected by this thy sparing mercy; and that the life which has been given to my prayers, I may return back to be spent in thy service, that I may love, and please, and praise my God, while I have my being, through Jesus Christ, my God and Saviour.

FOR VICTORY OVER OUR ENEMIES.

O ALMIGHTY LORD, the most high God, who rulest the kingdoms of men, and dost whatsoever thou pleasest in heaven and in earth, in thy hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee. Thou hast saved us from our enemies, and put them to shame that hated us. It was not by our own power that we have prospered; nor did our own sword or arm save us: but thy right hand,

and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance. Thine, O Lord, is the power, and the glory, and the victory. Now, therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. O thou great Lord of Hosts, who givest such safety and good success, wilt thou teach us also rightly to use thy marvellous kindness and love; that being delivered from the hands of our enemies, we may serve thee, in holiness and righteousness all the days of our life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER AND PRAISE FOR A CONVERTED SINNER.

I WILL praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify thy name for evermore; so great is thy mercy towards me, that thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. My lips therefore shall greatly rejoice, when I sing to thee, and my soul which thou hast redeemed, shall make her boast in the Lord. For I was in darkness, but now am light in the Lord; I was dead, and am alive again; I was lost, and am found. When no eye pitied me, and when I had not a heart to pity myself, then didst thou, Lord of love, look upon me in my blood, and bid me live. O sinful wretch, that I should be taken, and others left! I am amazed at thy kindness and love, O God my Saviour. I praise thee that thou hast at length overcome my heart, by thy Almighty grace. I bless thee for all the patience and forbearance thou

didst exercise towards me in my perverseness and dullness. I thank thee for all the great things which thou hast done for my soul, more than if thou hadst set me up with the princes of the earth, and blessed me with all the fulness and glory of the world. Soon will all these things pass away and perish, but the word of God, by which I am born again, lives and abides for ever. Blessed be God, his grace which brings salvation, appearing to me, is in me a well of water springing up to everlasting life. O God of all grace, who had such thoughts of mercy towards me, even when I was in enmity against thee, and did nothing but forget and provoke thee, thou wilt not despise the day of small things, nor cast me off for the failings of my services, after thou hast brought my soul from the gates of hell, within prospect of thy heavenly glory. O blessed change, and mighty work, worthy of God! What shall I render to the Lord for these greatest of all benefits, which I am not able so much as worthily to express? Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless his holy name. My God and Saviour, I was hopeless and helpless, and at the lowest thou hast remembered me; at the worst thou hast holpen and comforted me; the fear of hell was upon me, and thou hast delivered me from that bondage to rejoice in hope of thy glory. O blessed God of my salvation, accept the oblation of myself, and all my services, together with my thanks and praise, for this thy

mercy in Christ Jesus, and grant that the remainder of my life may be spent in thy love and in thy faithful service. O that I may experience joy and peace in believing, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and count thy love better than wine, and prefer it above my chiefest joy. Make me a true and faithful subject of that spiritual kingdom, which is righteousness, and peace, and joy, in the Holy Ghost. Give me such a consciousness of thy Spirit's operation in me, by the fruits of that Spirit, such evidences of thy power, such hopes of thy glory, and such tokens to assure my heart of thy everlasting love in Christ Jesus, that my soul may bless thee, O Lord, and all that is within me, may praise thy holy name. Accept, O gracious Father, and continue me for thy own, and make me still fitter for thy blessed acceptance in Jesus Christ my Saviour.

Amen.
