wise; carefully redeeming the time we have lost, and conscienciously improving all those seasons, aud means of grace, which thou art pleased to put into our hands. And while we are upon earth, O give us all things needful and convenient for our present pilgrimage; and sanctify to us all the enjoyments, and duties, and providences, that now befal us; till, through the merits of thy Son, and the multitude of thy mercies, we are conducted safely to be ever with the Lord. Amidst all our other affairs in this world, O let us never forget or neglect the one thing needful, but be in greatest care so to demean ourselves every day, as may forward our comfortable accounts in the great day of thy appearing and glory.

Gracious Father! keep us, evermore we beseech thee, in thy fear and favor; and help us to live to thy honor and glory. If thou guide us not, we shall run into errors; if thou preserve us not, we shall fall into dangers. O let thy good providence be our defence and security; and let thy Holy Spirit be our guide and counsellor in all our ways. And grant that we may take the ways and measures agreeably to thy will, and acceptable in thy sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, &c.

Monday Evening.

GAL. ii. 20.-I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ, liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

DEUT. xxxiii. 27.-The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency!

ROMANS Viii. 35.-Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved

us.

1 JOHN v. 18.-We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and the wicked one toucheth him not.

1 COR. X. 12.-Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.

13. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

PHIL. i. 6. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

2 PETER i. 10.—Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.

It

O GOD of the spirits of all flesh, it is meet and right that unto thee all mankind should repair. is very meet, and right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and everlasting God.

It is of thy mercies, O Lord, that we are not consumed, because thy compassions fail not, and because we have an all-prevailing Advocate, ever living to make intercession for us. Onr misdeeds testify against us, and our trespass is grown unto the heavens, for we have grievously sinned against thee, in thought, and word, and deed. We acknowledge with shame the corruption of our nature, and we also lament those actual transgressions of our lives, whereby we have broken thy holy law, and provoked thy wrath and indignation against us. But thou, even thou, art he that blottest out our sins for thy covenant's sake, and for thy beloved Son's sake, rememberest them no more. Be merciful, therefore, unto us, O God, for our souls trust in thee. Pardon, and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to everlasting life, through the merits of thy Son.

Enlighten our understanding, control our will, and sanctify our affections. So strengthen us, that neither the pleasures, nor the cares of this life, may turn away our thoughts from the life which is to come. But may we learn and labor daily to

live above the world, and to follow all our occupations in it with a heavenly mind. May the spirit which was in Christ Jesus govern us in all the relations, and circumstances of life. Make us diligent and faithful, patient and benevolent, useful to men, and pure and devout in the eyes of the Holy God. And grant that nothing may ever separate between us and thee by causing us to grow weary of thy service. But may we keep thy covenant at all times, and think upon thy commandments to do them, regarding thy yoke as easy, and thy burden light; yea, accounting thy service perfect freedom, and the very joy of our hearts.

[Here may be introduced any appropriate occasional Prayer.]

Brought by thy hand so far to the conclusion of another day, we desire to praise thee for the many and undeserved blessings which we have received. We adore thee as the author of our life, and the source of all our enjoyments. How great is thy goodness which thou hast in store for them that love thee! We give thanks unto thee, O Lord, and praise thy name, O thou Most High. Help us to show forth thy loving-kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. And that we may offer unto thee a spiritual sacrifice, acceptable through Jesus Christ, let not our praise proceed out of feigned lips, but from the ground of the heart. Grant that at the close of every day, thy love may be more abundantly shed abroad in us

by the Holy Ghost, and may constrain us to show forth thy praises, who hast called us out of darkness into marvellous Gospel light.

God of our fathers, trusting in thy tender mercies, and in thy loving-kindnesses, which have been ever of old, we flee unto thee for rest and safety this night. As thou seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves, take us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy good providence. Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul.

Finally, we beseech thee, O Lord, to bless the whole race of mankind, with all things needful for life and godliness. To all thy people give thy heavenly grace, and especially to this nation and its rulers, and let thy glory still dwell in our land. Grant that the course of this world may be so ordered by thy governance, that the Gospel of thy Son may be every where truly received and truly followed, and that thy Church may joyfully serve thee in all godly quietness. Bless all our relations and friends, all who have done or wished us good, and reward them seven fold into their bosoms. Do good to those who have done or wished us evil, and give them repentance and better minds. Comfort the sorrowing; heal the sick; shed abroad thy love in all our hearts; and fit us every day
