2 THESS. ii. 13.-We are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.

JOHN Xvii. 11.-Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

ROMANS Viii. 38.-I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

PHIL. i. 6. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

ROMANS Viii. 1.-There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

PHIL. ii. 12.—Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

ALMIGHTY GOD, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who desirest not the death of a sinner, but hadst rather that he turn from his wickedness and live, we acknowledge our manifold offences whereby thou art justly displeased. Notwithstanding all thy love and mercy, and our obligations and vows, we have often offended thee, in pride, in impenitence, in hardness of heart, in neglect of thy word, and the means of grace, and in forgetfulness of the

sufferings of thy dear Son. But whereas we cannot, by our best services, make any satisfaction for the sin that is past, we flee unto thy cross, O Lamb of God, who made there, by one oblation of thyself, once offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world. Pardon all our iniquities, and give unto us true repentance, and thy Holy Spirit; that those things may please thee which we do at this present; and that the rest of our life hereafter, being pure and holy, we may come to thy eternal joy.

And, as without holiness no man shall see thee in glory, and thy judgment draweth nigh, let us not be slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Be mercifully touched with the feeling of our infirmities, and remember whereof we are made. Carry on in our souls, from day to day, the work of faith with power. Fill us with the knowledge of thy will, in all wisdom, and spiritual understanding. Enable us to guard against every thing which might serve to weaken the ground of our confidence towards thee. May we May we never grieve thy Holy Spirit, nor wound our conscience, by doing what our hearts condemu. But grant that we may always, through thy help, both faithfully live and walk according to thy will in this life present, and also be partakers of everlasting glory in the life to

come.

These great mercies, which we ask for ourselves, be pleased, O God, to extend unto our fellow men. Grant that repentance and remission of sins may be preached unto all nations. Cause the wicked to forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto thee, that thou mayest have mercy upon him, and abundantly pardon him. Give thy blessing to the righteous; and with thy favorable kindness defend him, as with a shield. Have compassion upon those who have grown lukewarm in thy service. May they be zealous and repent, and do their first works. Give them the comfort of thy help again; and establish them with thy free Spirit.

We entreat thee, also, to accept our thanks for the manifold blessings which we have hitherto received, and for the means and hopes of salvation through the covenant of thy Son. We praise thee for the comforts and protection of the past day; for we are unable to defend ourselves, and unworthy to be defended by thee. We bless thee for providing for us a place of rest by night; for thy beloved Son, when he was upon earth, had not where to lay his head. Thou only art he who makest us to dwell in safety. We beseech thee, therefore, most mighty God, who art the Protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, to watch over us, and keep us, through the

hours of darkness. Increase and multiply upon us thy mercy, from day to day; that, thou being our Ruler and Guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things that are eternal, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
