SENATE JOURNAL.

Senate Chamber, Columbus, Ohio.

August 25, 1902, 3 o'clock P. M.

The Senate met in extraordinary session, pursuant to the call of the Governor, issued in accordance with section 8, of article III, of the constitution of Ohio, and was called to order by President Pro. Tem. Archer.

Prayer was offered by Rev. D. J. Starr, of Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Harding moved that a committee of two be appointed to escort Lieutenant Governor Harry L. Gordon to the chair.

Which was agreed to, and Messrs. Longworth and Harding were appointed such committee.

The committee appeared at the bar of the Senate with Lieutenant Governor Gordon, and escorted him to the chair, whereupon he addressed the Senate and assumed the chair.

Mr. Harding offered the following resolution:

S. J. R. No. 1-Be it resolved by the 75th General Assembly of Ohio that a committee of three on the part of the Senate and

on

the part of the House be appointed to notify the Governor that the General Assembly is now in extraordinary session in obedience to his call. The question being on the adoption of the resolution.

The yeas and nays were taken, and resulted-yeas 28, nays o, as follows:

Those who voted in the affirmative were:

Messrs. Archer, Burnham, Chamberlain, Connell, Crites, Decker, Dunham, Echert, Godfrey, Hanna, Harding, Harris, Herrick, Hurst, Judson, Krause, Longworth, Moore, Overturf, Riggin, Roudebush, Royer, Stilwell, Thompson, Warner, Wilhelm, Wirt and Yates-28.

So the resolution was adopted.

The chair appointed as such committee, on the part of the Senate, Messrs. Archer, Rover and Wirt.

Mr. Connell offered the following resolution, which was adopted. S. R. No. 1-Be it resolved by the Senate that a message be sent to the House notifying that body that the Senate is in session and ready for the transaction of business.

Senator Archer, for the committee appointed to wait upon the Governor, announced that the committee had discharged its duty and that the Governor would transmit his views to the Senate in a communication later.

The secretary to the Governor appeared at the bar of the Senate with a message from the Governor, which was delivered to the Senate and read by the clerk.

Mr. Longworth moved that the message, with the accompanying papers, be referred to the committee of the whole Senate, which was agreed to.
