NOTE.-May 7th, 1877, an Executive order was issued by the President, reducing the number of agencies for the payment of pensions from 58 to 18, by the consolidation of districts. The consolidation saves to the Government, in salaries of the agents, $142,000 per annum, according to the Report of the Commissioner of Pensions. The salaries of pension agents under existing laws are 2 per cent on disbursements, but such percentage not to exceed $4000 salary. An extra allowance or perquisite of 25 cents for cach pension voucher is, however, still in force. Total Gross Revenue.
