THE subjoined table exhibits, by denominations, the amount of national-bank and legal-tender notes outstanding on November 1, 1877: Section 5175 of the Revised Statutes provides "that not more than one-sixth part of the notes furnished to any association shall be of a less denomination than five dollars, and that after specie payments are resumed no association shall be furnished with notes of a less denomination than five dollars."
