STATE DEBTS, VALUATION, AND TAXES.

The following statistics of the finances of the thirty-eight States in the Union have bee
derived in most cases from the officers of the States themselves.

* The State of Maryland held $4,454,370 in interest-paying securities of corporations, besides $22,957,93
in unproductive securities.

+ Massachusetts held $11, 440,917 in sinking fund, January 1, 1977.
