M. 82 Welcome to New Friends Merger of two publications with the NEW OUTLOOK this month broadens its outreach and widens its circle of readers. With this issue, the New Outlook welcomes into its fold two esteemed colleagues, The Searchlight, founded in 1910 and edited by Marvin and Velta Myrle Sanford, and The Emancipator, founded by John C. and May C. Granbery and first published in 1937 at San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Granbery at first thought of carrying on the magazine alone, after the death of her husband in May, but found all the work in connection with such an undertaking to be quite too much and, after editing the June issue as a memorial to him, decided to unite The Emancipator with the New Outlook. Merger of the two highly respected journals with the New Outlook will, we trust, be of benefit to the readers of all three publications. The Searchlight has borne under its title the words, "LifeLabor-Literature-Art," and The Emancipator, "An Independent Forward-Looking Monthly." Our three publications have all been primarily concerned with ideas, ideals and human thought and, under a single cover in the future, will continue to do so. It is with anticipation that we welcome our new readers. We hope that they discover in the New Outlook fare of the same quality and brand of idealism to which they are accustomed. -THE EDITORS |
