PREFACE.

AMONG the various studies of childhood and youth, there is none more important than that of History. It unfolds to them events that have happened in the world, and makes them familiar with characters who have lived and died in ages past. For this reason, the pages even of profane History are of the utmost value to the rising generation. But how much more valuable are the pages of Scripture History. They unfold to the young past events in which their own eternal interests are concerned, and delineate characters who have become burning and shining lights to every child of Adam. In them may be found examples of patience, meekness, faith, long suffering, holiness, and all the varied virtues which can adorn human nature.

It is with a view of making the young thus acquainted with Scripture History that the following pages are laid before them. Written in simple language, it is hoped they will not only prove pleasing to their youthful minds, but that they will convey to them the most useful of all information that which will make them wise unto salvation.

They tell us how the world was called into existence from nothing by the voice of God, and how the sun, and moon, and stars; and beast, and fish, and fowl were
