did these two think how all this was fitting them each in his own place to be chosen of all the saints of God, and recalled from the tranquillities of Paradise and Heaven, to minister in person to the wants of Jesus. So we can never tell what each exercise of courage, trust, or charity may fit us for. We know that every time we think, or say, or do anything right, by the grace of God we are the better for it, but how much the better we do not know, nor can we set scope or limit to the influence of our actions. But we do know that by-and-by, in the mercy of God, these will bring us into heaven, and Jesus is there. There we shall serve Him day and night. There will be work to do then. His purposes are everlasting, and we shall be called to assist those purposes. My friends! what kind of help will the life you are leading enable you to render in this world or the world to come? Go and think.

JONE! Oh, the utter desolation of that word! You know the meaning of it—some of you. You have left the darkened chamber, unable longer to bear the spectacle of your beloved in agony. You have been sitting alone in weary hopeless vigil. A friend has come down to you. You start up and look eagerly into his face. You see it there. No word passes between you, but your heart cries, "Gone!" and grief rushes in upon you and takes possession. But there has been some solace for you. Time has taken the keen edge off your sorrow. You can go now and say, "There where the roses are in bloom,
