Hosanna in the Highest.

The sun arising in the east,

Though he give light and the east perfume;

If they should offer to contest

With Thy arising, they presume.

Can there be any day but this,

Though many suns to shine endeavour? We count three hundred, but we miss : There is but one, and that one ever.

Hosanna in the Highest.

BISHOP HEBER.

HOSANNA to the living Lord!

Hosanna to the Incarnate Word!
To Christ, Creator, Saviour, King,
Let earth, let heaven hosanna sing.
Hosanna in the highest!

"Hosanna!" Lord, Thine angels cry;
"Hosanna!" Lord, Thy saints reply:
Above, beneath us, and around,
The dead and living swell the sound.
Hosanna! Lord, Hosanna in the highest!

O Saviour, with protecting care,
Return to this Thy house of prayer,
Where we Thy parting promise claim,
Assembled in Thy sacred Name.
Hosanna in the highest !

But chiefest in our cleansèd breast
Bid Thine eternal Spirit rest;

313

And make our secret soul to be
A temple pure, and worthy Thee.
Hosanna in the highest!

So, in the last and dreadful day,
When earth and heaven shall melt away,
Thy flock, redeem'd from sinful stain,
Shall swell the sound of praise again.
Hosanna! Lord, Hosanna in the highest!

J

Jesus shall Reign.

DR ISAAC WATTS.

ESUS shall reign where'er the sun

Doth His successive journeys run: His kingdom stretch from shore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

For Him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown His head;
His name, like sweet perfume, shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song,
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His Name.

Blessings abound where'er He reigns;
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains;
The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blest.

The Resurrection.

Where He displays His healing power,
Death and the curse are known no more;
In Him the tribes of Adam boast
More blessings than their father lost.

Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honours to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud Amen.

The Resurrection.

REV. ROWLAND HILL.

E sing His love, who once was slain,

WE

Who soon o'er death revived again,
That all His saints through Him might have
Eternal conquests o'er the grave.

Soon shall the trumpet sound, and we
Shall rise to immortality.

The saints, who now with Jesus sleep,
His own almighty power shall keep,
Till dawns the bright illustrious day
When death itself shall die away:

Soon shall the trumpet sound, and we
Shall rise to immortality.

How loud shall our glad voices sing,

When Christ His risen saints shall bring

From beds of dust and silent clay,

To realms of everlasting day!

Soon shall the trumpet sound, and we
Shall rise to immortality.

315

When Jesus we in glory meet,
Our utmost joys shall be complete;
When landed on that heavenly shore,
Death and the curse will be no more:
Soon shall the trumpet sound, and we
Shall rise to immortality.

Hasten, dear Lord, the glorious day,
And this delightful scene display,

When all Thy saints from death shall rise
Raptured in bliss beyond the skies!
Soon shall the trumpet sound, and we
Shall rise to immortality.

The Two Crowns.

REV. THOMAS KELLY.

HE Head that once was crown'd with thorns,

THE

Is crown'd with glory now;

A royal diadem adorns

The mighty Victor's brow.

The highest place that Heaven affords

Is His, is His by right,

The King of kings, and Lord of lords,
And Heaven's eternal Light.

The joy of all who dwell above,
The joy of all below,

To whom He manifests His love,
And grants His Name to know.

To Him sing Hallelujah.

To them the Cross, with all its shame,
With all its grace, is given;
Their name an everlasting name,
Their joy the joy of Heaven.

They suffer with their Lord below,
They reign with Him above,
Their profit and their joy to know
The mystery of His love.

The cross He bore is life and health,
Though shame and death to Him:
His people's hope, His people's wealth,
Their everlasting theme.

To Him sing Hallelujah.

REV. ARTHUR TOZER RUSSELL.

T

'O Him, who for our sins was slain,
To Him, for all His dying pain,
Sing we Hallelujah!

To Him, the Lamb our sacrifice,
Who gave His soul our ransom-price,
Sing we Hallelujah!

To Him, who died that we might die
To sin, and live with Him on high,
Sing we Hallelujah!

To Him, who rose that we might rise
And reign with Him beyond the skies,
Sing we Hallelujah!
