LITTLE BIRDIE

WHAT does little birdie say,

In her nest at peep of day?

"Let me fly," says little birdie,
"Mother, let me fly away.'

"Birdie, rest a little longer,
Till the little wings are stronger."
So she rests a little longer.
Then she flies away.

What does little baby say,
In her bed at peep of day?
Baby says, like little birdie,
"Let me rise and fly away."
"Baby, sleep a little longer,
Till the little limbs are stronger.
If she sleeps a little longer,
Baby, too, shall fly away."

ALFRED TENNYSON.

LITTLE WHITE LILY

LITTLE white Lily

Sat by a stone,

Drooping and waiting
Till the sun shone.
Little white Lily
Sunshine has fed;
Little white Lily
Is lifting her head.

Little white Lily

Said, "It is good;
Little white Lily's
Clothing and food."

Little white Lily

Drest like a bride!
Shining with whiteness,
And crowned beside!

Little white Lily

Droopeth with pain, Waiting and waiting For the wet rain.

Little white Lily

Holdeth her cup; Rain is fast falling And filling it up.

LITTLE THINGS

LITTLE drops of water,

Little grains of sand,

Make the mighty ocean
And the pleasant land.

Thus the little minutes,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages

Of eternity.

Thus our little errors

Lead the soul away From the path of virtue Off in sin to stray.

Little deeds of kindness,

Little words of love, Make this earth an Eden,

Like the heaven above.

LITTLE BO-PEEP

LITTLE Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,

And can't tell where to find them;

Leave them alone and they'll come home,
And bring their tails behind them.

Little Bo-peep fell fast asleep,

And dreamed she heard them bleating; But when she awoke she found it a joke, For they were still a-fleeting.

Then up she took her little crook,

Determined for to find them;

She found them indeed, but it made her heart bleed,

For they'd left their tails behind 'em.

MOTHER Goose.
