Par. 20. Chalk or whiting or Paris white: Dry, ground, bolted, or precipitated, 25% ad val.; ground in oil (putty), three-fourths of 1 cent per pound; put up in cubes, blocks, sticks, disks, or otherwise, including billiard, and manufactures of chalk not specially provided for, 25% ad val.

Par. 28. Coal-tar products: All colors, dyes, or stains, color acids, color bases, color lakes, leuco-compounds, indoxyl and indoxyl compounds, 45% ad val. based upon the American selling price of any similar competitive article produced in the United

States, and 7 cents per pound: Provided, That for two years beginning the day following passage of Act the ad val. rate of duty shall be 60% instead of 45%. If no similar competitive article is produced in the United States then the ad val. rate shall be based on the United States value.

1913. Coal-tar dyes or colors, 30% ad val.

Par. 31. Compounds of pyroxylin, of other cellulose esters or ethers, or of cellulose (except compounds of cellulose known as vulcanized or hard fiber), in blocks, sheets, rods, tubes, or other forms, and not made into finished or partly finished articles, 40 cents per pound; made into finished or partly finished articles, 60% ad val.

It is a splendid idea to devote a full page to a tariff
sale, giving each department its allotted space for
imported merchandise of unusual value. Quote on
each article both the "regular" and "off list" price,
and tell in each editorial why your goods are
cheaper by comparison with goods of similar qual-
ity purchased elsewhere. The ideas given in the
following pages may prove helpful.

Par. 39. Extracts, dyeing and tanning: Extracts, decoctions, and preparations of vegetable origin used for dyeing, coloring, staining, or tanning, not specially provided for, 15% ad val.

1913.-Three-eighths of 1 cent per pound.

Dealing with the Imported
Fetich in Perfumery

PERFUMES with fragrance of infinite delicacy
alluring, elusive, abiding, as wonderful as the most
luxurious perfumes of Paris, and far lower in cost.
Also toilette waters, sachets, face powders, com-
pacts, all popular odours, in containers of exquisite
nicety, priced considerably less than a Parisian par-
fumeur would ask.

Par. 67. Paints, colors, and pigments, commonly known as artists' paints or colors, not assembled in paint sets, kits, or color outfits, 40% ad val.; when assembled, 70% ad val.

1913.-All, 20% ad val.

Par. 68. Pigments, colors, stains, and paints, including enamel paints, not specially provided for, 25% ad val.

1913.-15% ad val.

Par. 70. Blue pigments and all blues containing iron ferrocyanide or iron ferricyanide, 8 cents per pound; ultramarine blue, wash and all other blues containing ultramarine, 3 cents per pound. 1913. Blues, 20% ad val.; wash and other ultramarine blues, 15% ad val.

Par. 71. Bone black or bone char, blood char, and decolorizing and deodorizing chars or carbons, 20% ad val.
