4 All glory to Jesus, who sits on the throne; Let angels and saints spread the sound of his fame;

We bow to the Lamb, who is worthy alone, And give him the praise that belongs to his name.

47.

Zech. xiii. 1.

WHAT sacred fountain yonder springs
Up from the throne of God,
And all our covenant blessings brings?
'Tis Jesu's precious blood.

2 What mighty sum paid all my debt,
When I a bondman stood,

And hath my soul at freedom set?
'Tis Jesu's precious blood.

3 What stream is that which sweeps away
My sins, just like a flood,
Nor lets one guilty blemish stay?
'Tis Jesu's precious blood.

4 What voice is that which speaks for me
In heaven's high court for good,

And from the curse hath set me free?
'Tis Jesu's precious blood.

5 What theme, my soul, will best employ
Thy harp before thy God,

And make all heaven to ring with joy? 'Tis Jesu's precious blood.

Col. i. 20.

OURS is a pardon bought with blood,

Amazing truth!

The blood of one,

Who, without usurpation, could

Lay claim to heaven's eternal throne.

D

2 No victim of inferior worth

Could meet the stroke that justice aimed;
For none but He, in heaven or earth,
Could offer that which justice claimed.
3 But he, the Lord of glory, came;

On yonder cross he bowed his head;
He suffered pain, he suffered shame,
And lay a prisoner with the dead.
4 But lo! he rises from the grave,

And bears the greatest, sweetest name; The Lord, almighty now to save,

From sin, from death, from endless shame. 5 Sweet is the pardon thus procured, And oh! how dear the Saviour is To him for whom he thus endured, The punishment that else were his. Is. xxvii. 4, 5.

49.

AND who but Jesus, Christian say,
Was able to endure

The weight of sin that on him lay,
And make salvation sure?

2 Vindictive wrath, to sinners due,
His sacred bosom tore;

And pangs, that mortals never knew,
Brought blood from every pore!

3 The work was great-'twas to redeem,
And bring to glory all

The chosen seed, beloved in him,
And his before their fall.

4 Yes, he was able to fulfil

Salvation's glorious plan,

The council of Jehovah's will,
Before the world began.

5 Hence to the cross of Jesus now,
Poor guilty souls repair,

Since Justice wears a smiling brow,
And mercy triumphs there.

6 Let seraphs, then, adore their King,
In realms of endless day;

But saints a higher note can sing,
More loved, more blest than they.

1 Pet. i. 18, 19.

GREAT was the price to justice due,

When Jesus would redeem his Bride;
Nothing but precious blood would do,

And that must flow from his own side.

2 How glorious was the work he wrought, While dwelling on this earthly globe; When each good deed, and each pure thought,

Conspired to weave our spotless robe! 3 Thus Jesus wrought our righteousness, Our guilt sustained, our sorrows bore, Secured our everlasting peace,

And triumphed o'er the serpent's power.

4 And now in heaven he lives to plead,
Before his Holy Father's throne,
What he hath suffered in our stead,
And sends us gifts and graces down.

5 Dressed in this garment washed in blood, And ransomed from the powers of hell,

We now free access have to God,
And of his love and goodness tell.

6 And soon will this dear Saviour come,
In majesty and glorious dress,
To take his ransomed children home
To seats of everlasting bliss.

Ps. lxxxix. 16.

SAVIOUR Divine! we know thy name,
And in that name we trust;

Thou art the "Lord our Righteousness,"
Thou art thine Israel's boast.

2 Guilty we plead before the throne,
And low in dust we lie;

But thou hast stretched thy gracious arm,
And brought such sinners nigh.
3 The sins of one most righteous day
Might plunge us in despair;

Yet all the crimes of numerous years
Doth our great Surety clear.

4 That spotless robe which thou hast wrought,
Shall deck us all around;
Nor by the piercing eye of God,
One blemish shall be found.

5 Pardon and peace, and lively hope,
To sinners now are given :

Israel, beloved, shall shortly change
Their wilderness for heaven.

6 With joy we taste the manna here,
Thy mercy scatters down;

We raise our grateful praise to thee,
And wait the promised crown.

52.

Song i. 3.

INFINITE excellence is thine,
Thou lovely Prince of grace;
Thine uncreated glories shine
With never-fading rays.

53.

2 Sinners, from earth's remotest end,
Come bending at thy feet;

To thee their prayers and praise ascend,
In thee their wishes meet.

3 Thy name, as precious ointment shed,
Delights the Church around;
Sweetly the sacred odours spread
Through all Emmanuel's ground.

4 Millions of happy spirits live
On thine exhaustless store;

From thee they all their bliss receive,
And still thou givest more.

5 Thou art our triumph and our joy;
We find our all in thee;

Thy glories shall our tongues employ
Throughout eternity.

John xviii. 4-11.

HOW willing was Jesus to die,

That we, his dear people, might live;
The life they could not take away,
How willing was Jesus to give!
2 They pierced his hands and his feet;
His hands and his feet he resigned;
The pangs of his body were great,
But greater the pangs of his mind.
3 That wrath would have kindled a hell
Of never-abating despair,

For us fellow-sinners, which fell
On Jesus, and spent itself there.

4 'Twas Justice that burst in a blaze

Of vengeance on Him as our Head; Divinity's indwelling rays

Sustained him till nature was dead.
