For deficiency in appropriation for the legislative printing of the state, including binding, mapping, lithographing and engrav ing, one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary.

The sum of two thousand one hundred eleven dollars and fifty cents is hereby appropriated for the payment of the salaries and sociations. expenses of experts appointed by the comptroller for the year eigh teen hundred and ninety-six, pursuant to the provisions of chapter three hundred and eighty of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-six, to examine the books of the incorporated racing associa tions of the state, and to make such investigations as were neces sary to ascertain the amount of tax payable by such associations; and there is also appropriated for the salaries and expenses of experts, for the year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, the sum of three thousand two hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, the amounts herein appropriated to be paid from the funds collected from the said associations.

For the attorney-general, the sum of six thousand five hundred of James and thirty-one dollars and seventy-four cents to reimburse James Shanahan, late superintendent of public works, for moneys due and paid by him upon a judgment recovered against him as superintendent of public works, in an action brought in the supreme court by David Wright and entered in Cayuga county July eighteenth, eighteen hundred and ninety-five, together with costs taxed thereon, June eleventh, eighteen hundred and ninety-six and interest thereon, all of which is included in the above judgment.

For the purchase of a safe in which to keep securities deposited in the department and the building of necessary galleries in the office for keeping of records in a suitable manner and for the purchasing of necessary furniture, et cetera, for New York office, five thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary.

RAILROAD COMMISSION.

For the board of railroad commissioners, for an electrical expert and for the purchase of necessary law and statistical books, the sum of three thousand dollars, this amount to be paid by the comptroller upon the requisition of the board of railroad commissioners, and to be refunded to the treasury by the several corporations owning or operating railroads in this state, in such manner and proportion as is prescribed by law.

COURT OF CLAIMS.

The unexpended balance heretofore appropriated for the payment of the expenses of the clerk, stenographer and messenger of the board of claims while attending sessions of the board at places other than at Albany, is hereby reappropriated into the contingent fund of the court of claims.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE.

For the commissioner of agriculture, for the expenses and for the continuance and extension of the work of his department, pursuant to chapter three hundred thirty-eight, laws of eighteen hundred ninety-three, to the close of the fiscal year, the sum of twenty thou sand dollars; the assistant commissioners of agriculture shall receive such salaries as shall be fixed by the commissioner of agriculture, and all necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

For the promotion of agriculture, the sum of ten thousand dollars, to be distributed by the commissioner of agriculture as provided in section eighty-eight of the agricultual law.
