P in the fir-tree what do we see? Birds of a feather? Do they agree?

What a chirping, what a noise! Very much like girls and boys.

Feather pulling, sharp short blow :
Naughty bird, to serve him so!
If you quarrel o'er your food
No one here can call you good.

Master Jack, don't eat so fast:
First to finish, yet helped last.
Birds like you should feed alone;
You'll not leave a single cone.

See the pretty mother fly

With her children through the sky;
Like our mother she does call
To her birds, and gives them all.

Like the birds up in that tree
Is our pleasant nursery;
Full of birdies, full of noise,
Full of merry girls and boys.

RTHUR found a linnet's nest, And brought it home to Mary; In a golden cage 'twas placed, Made for her canary.

But within this little round

Four small birdies clean and bright; Cried out for their dear mamma, Chirping all the night.

Soon as rose the joyous sun,
Heralding the gladsome day;
Then the parent birds came in,
With their little ones to play.

Brought them food, and boldly too,
Fed them through the golden cage ;
Kissed them with their shining bills,
Scolded when they pecked with rage.
Every day they gladly came,

To feed their young ones in the

room;

And when evening's shadows fell,
Sang sweet songs to cheer the gloom.
When these little birds could fly,
Mary oped the cage's door; .
With their parents off they flew,
And she saw her birds no more.

OOLISH Edward runs away,
From the large dog with the

bone;

If we do not teaze or chide,
Dogs will leave us quite alone.

If we try to take away,

Food they eat or bones they gnaw; They will bite our fingers well,

And perhaps some blood may draw.
