No. XXII.

DELIVERANCE FROM TROUBLE, ETC.

PSALMS.

XX.

1. The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble: the Name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

2. Send thee help from the sanctuary: and strengthen thee out of Sion;

3. Remember all thy offerings: and accept thy burnt sacrifice;

4. Grant thee thy heart's desire: and fulfil all thy mind.

5. We will rejoice in thy salvation, and triumph in the Name of the Lord our God: the Lord perform all thy petitions.

6. Now know I, that the Lord helpeth his Anointed, and will hear him from his holy heaven: even with the wholesome strength of his right hand.

7. Some put their trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God.

8. They are brought down, and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

9. Save, Lord, and hear us, O King of heaven: when we call upon thee.

xxxiv. 1-9.

1. I will alway give thanks unto the Lord: his praise shall ever be in my mouth.

2. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3. O praise the Lord with me: and let us magnify his Name together.

4. I sought the Lord, and he heard me: yen, he delivered me out of all my fear.

5. They had an eye unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6. Lo, the poor crieth, and the Lord heareth him: yea, and saveth him out of all his troubles.

7. The angel of the Lord tarrieth round about them that fear him : and delivereth them.

8. O taste, and see, how gracious the Lord is: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9. O fear the Lord, ye that are his saints: for they that fear him lack nothing.

LESSONS.

Epistle, 5th Sunday after Trinity.

1 St. Peter iii. 8.

Be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous; not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil and do good; let him seek peace and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye

suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts.

Or, St. John xvi. 23, Gos. 5th Sun. after Easter. St. Matt. vi. 24, Gos. 15th Sunday after Trinity.

PRAYERS.

General Thanksgiving.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and lovingkindness to us, and to all men; [particularly to those who desire now to offer up their praises and thanksgivings for thy late mercies vouchsafed unto them.] We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world, by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful, and that we shew forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to thy service,

and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

5th Sunday in Lent.

We beseech thee, Almighty God, mercifully to look upon thy people; that by thy great goodness they may be governed and preserved evermore, both in body and soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2nd Sunday after Trinity.

O Lord, who never failest to help and govern them whom thou dost bring up in thy stedfast fear and love; Keep us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy good providence; and make us to have a perpetual fear, and love of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2nd Collect at the end of the Communion Service.

O Almighty Lord, and everlasting God, vouchsafe, we beseech thee, to direct, sanctify, and govern, both our hearts and bodies, in the ways of thy laws, and in the works of thy command
