DREAM, BABY!

DR

REAM, baby, dream!
The stars are glowing.
Hear'st thou the stream?
'Tis softly flowing.

All gently glide the hours:
Above, no tempest lowers:
Below are fragrant flowers
In silence growing.

JANE'S NEW DRESS.

NICE new dress has Janey Pitt,

And very pleased she is with it,
And very well it looks; but, Jane,
I hope it will not make you vain.
You know you want a better dress-
The Saviour's robe of righteousness.

Children's Friend.

MINUTES.

WEach one furnished with sixty wings,

VE are but minutes, little things,

With which we fly on our unseen track,
And not a minute ever comes back.

We are but minutes, use us well,

For how we are used we must one day tell;
Who uses minutes has hours to use,

Who loses minutes whole years must lose.

Child's Companion.

A CHARADE.

YOU would run from my first, though a very small dog;

You

My next you may see in the air;

My third you will smell in an old stagnant bog;

People ride in my last to the fair.

My whole is an isle to the south of the line,

Whose martyrs have triumphed through power divine.

AMY.

EAR little Amy! when you talk of her,
Say she is gone to Heaven.

2a Child. They planted her

Will she come up next year?

1st Child. No, not so soon;

But some day God will call her to come up,
And then she will. Papa knows everything;
He said she would before they planted her.

ONE

January 11th.

A SLIDE.

NE, two, three, four, all of a row,
Merrily down the slide

Toes and fingers all on a glow,

we go;

With a laugh and a whoop and a loud halloa.

Ha, ha, ha! ho, ho, ho!

Merrily down the slide we go.
