THE FIRST TOOTH.

THERE was a baby, he sat on my knee,

With a pearl in his mouth that was precious to me,

His little dark mouth like a cave of the sea!

I said to my heart, "And my jewel is bright!

He blooms like a primrose! he shines like a light!”
Put your hand in his mouth! do you feel? he can bite!

LITTLE SHOES.

THOSE little, those little blue shoes,

Those shoes that no little feet use;

O the price were high,

That those shoes would buy,

For they hold the small shape of feet
That no more there's mother's eyes meet,

They've ceased from their totter so sweet!

LITTLE MAUD.

WHERE is our dainty, our darling,
The daintiest darling of all?

Where is the voice on the stair-way,

Where is the voice in the hall?
The little short steps in the entry,
The silvery laugh in the hall?

Where is our dainty, our darling,
The daintiest darling of all,

Little Maud?

March 1st.

MARCH,

ARCH, ha! he comes

like March of old,

A blustering cordial friend, and bold!

He calls the peasant to his toil,

And trims with him the wholesome soil.
Flocks multiply the seed is sown-

Its increase is of heaven alone.

DIRTY JACK.

HERE was one little Jack, not very long back,

THERE

And 'tis said, to his lasting disgrace,

That he never was seen with his hands at all clean,
Nor yet ever clean was his face.

His friends were much hurt, to see so much dirt,
And often and well did they scour ;

But all was in vain, he was dirty again,

Before they had done it an hour.
