HRIST our passover is sacrificed for | us: || therefore | let us keep the feast;

Not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness: || but with the unleavened bread | of sin | cerity and truth.

CE

1 Cor. v. 7.

YHRIST being raised from the dead | dieth no | more : || death hath no more do | minion | over | him.

For in that he died, he died | unto sin | once: || but in that he liveth, he | liveth | unto | God.

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead in | deed unto sin | but alive unto God through | Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom. vi. 9.

HRIST is risen | from the dead: | and become the | first-fruits of them that | slept.

For since by man came | death: || by man came also the resurrection of the dead. |

For as in Adam all | die : || even so in Christ shall | all be made a live.

Glory be to the Father, | &c.

1 Cor. xv. 20.

Hymns.

1.

UN of my soul, thou Saviour dear,

SUN

It is not night if thou be near;

O may no earth-born cloud arise
To hide thee from thy servant's eyes!

2 When the soft dews of kindly sleep
My wearied eyelids gently steep,

Be my last thought-How sweet to rest
For ever on my Saviour's breast!

3 Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without thee I cannot live:
Abide with me when night is nigh,
For without thee I dare not die.

4 If some poor wandering child of thine
Have spurned to-day the voice divine,
Now, Lord, the gracious work begin;
Let him no more lie down in sin.

5 Watch by the sick; enrich the poor
With blessings from thy boundless store;
Be every mourner's sleep to-night,
Like infants' slumbers, pure and light,
6 Come near and bless us when we wake,
Ere through the world our way we take;
Till in the ocean of thy love,

We lose ourselves in Heaven above. Amen.

BIDE with me; fast falls the eventide :

The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide:
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day:
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away :
Change and decay in all around I see,

O thou who changest not, abide with me.

3 I need thy presence every passing hour;
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like thyself my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

4 I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless;

Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
Where is Death's sting, where, Grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

5 Hold thou thy Cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies;
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

3 Here let my way appear
Steps unto heaven,

All that thou sendest me,
In mercy given;

Angels to beckon me

Nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee.

4 Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise;

Out of my stony griefs

Bethel I'll raise,

So by my woes to be

Nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee. Amen.

(EASTER.)

HRIST, the Lord, is risen to-day," Hallelujah !

"Sons of men and angels say! Hallelujah!
Raise your joys and triumphs high; Hallelujah!
Sing, ye heavens; thou earth, reply. Hallelujah!
2 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Hallelujah!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell: Hallelujah!
Death in vain forbids his rise; Hallelujah!
Christ hath open'd Paradise. Hallelujah!
3 Lives again our glorious King! Hallelujah!
Where, O Death, is now thy sting? Hallelujah !
Once he died our souls to save; Hallelujah!
Where's thy victory, boasting Grave? Hallelujah!
4 Soar we now, where Christ hath led, Hallelujah!
Following our exalted Head; Hallelujah!
Made like him, like him we rise, Hallelujah!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. Hallelujah!

[blocks in formation]

Amen.

3 There is the throne of David; And there from care released, The shout of them that triumph,

The song of them that feast; And they, who with their Leader, Have conquer'd in the fight, For ever, and for ever,

Are clad in robes of white.

4 O sweet and blessed country,
The home of God's elect!
O sweet and blessed country,

That eager hearts expect!
Jesus, in mercy bring us

To that dear land of rest; Whe art with God the Father,

And Spirit, ever blest. Amen.

7.

HOLY, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

Gratefully adoring our song shall rise to thee Holy, Holy, Holy, merciful and mighty:

God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, Holy, Holy! all the saints adore thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and Seraphim falling down before thee,
Who wast, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3 Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
Only thou art Holy: there is none beside thee
Perfect in power, in love and purity.

4 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea; Holy, Holy, Holy! merciful and mighty;

God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity! Amen.

ET everlasting glories crown

L'

Thy head, my Saviour and my Lord;
Thy hands have brought salvation down,
And writ the blessing in thy word.

2 In vain our trembling conscience seeks
Some solid ground to rest upon;
With long despair our spirit breaks,
Till we apply to thee alone.

3 How well thy blessed truths agree!
How wise and holy thy commands!
Thy promises, how firm they be!

How firm our hope and comfort stands!

4 Should all the forms that men devise
Assault my faith with treacherous art,
I'd call them vanity and lies,

And bind thy gospel to my heart. Amen.

9.

OD, who madest earth and heaven,
Darkness and light;

Who the day for toil hast given,
For rest the night;

May thine angel-guards defend us,
Slumber sweet thy mercy send us,
Holy dreams and hopes attend us,
This livelong night.
