CHAPTER 46.

An Act to amend The Stock Inspection Act, 1922.

(Assented to April 8, 1926.)

IS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta,

enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as "The Stock Inspection Act, Short title 1922, Amendment Act, 1926."

2. The Stock Inspection Act, 1922, being chapter 69 of Section 20a the Revised Statutes of Alberta, is amended by adding as section 20a, immediately after section 20 thereof, the following:

"20a.-(1) Every person other than a licensed butcher, Inspection of who slaughters any head of cattle for meat purposes, shall officer retain possession of the hide of such animal for a period of ten days thereafter, and shall during such period, produce such hide for examination by any officer of the Alberta Provincial Police Force who may demand to see the same: "Provided, however, that any hide may be disposed of within such period upon receipt of written authority from any such officer or hide dealer or brand reader."

3. This Act shall come into force on Proclamation of the Coming into Lieutenant Governor in Council.

CHAPTER 47.

An Act respecting Dogs.

(Assented to April 8, 1926.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta,

enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as "The Dangerous Dogs Act." Short title

2. Any justice may take cognizance of a complaint that Complaint as any dog has bitten or attempted to bite any person, and if it appears to such justice that the dog ought to be destroyed, he may direct the dog to be destroyed, and any constable may destroy the same accordingly.

3. Any justice may take cognizance of a complaint that Complaint as a dog is dangerous and not kept under proper control, and dog if it appears to him that such dog is dangerous, he may make an order in a summary way directing the dog to be kept by the owner in a proper way or destroyed, and every person failing to comply with such order shall upon summary conviction be liable to a penalty not exceeding five dollars for every day during which he fails to comply with such order.

4. The occupier of any house or premises where such dog Person is kept or permitted to live or remain at the time of the be owner of complaint shall be presumed to be the owner of the dog and shall be liable under the provisions of this Act, unless he proves that he was not the owner of the dog at the time:

Provided, however, that where there are more occupiers than one in any house or premises let in separate apartments or lodgings, or otherwise, the occupier of that particular part of the house or premises in which the dog has been kept or permitted to live or remain at the time of the complaint shall be presumed to be the owner of the dog.

CHAPTER 48.

An Act to amend The Agricultural Pests Act.

(Assented to April 8, 1926.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as "The Agricultural Pests Act Short title Amendment Act, 1926."

2. The Agricultural Pests Act, being chapter 71 of the Part III Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1922, is amended by adding thereto the following as Part III:

"PART III.

"WHEATSTEM SAWFLY.

"24. Any person occupying land which is infested by the Wheatstem wheatstem sawfly, or, if there is no such person, the owner thereof, shall annually, so long as such land continues to be infested, plow the same to a depth of not less than six inches, and such plowing shall be done after harvest and before the thirty-first day of May next following."

3. This Act shall come into force on the day upon which Coming into it is assented to.
