CHAPTER 63.

An Act respecting the Lacombe and North Western

Railway.

WHEREAS it is to the advantage of the Province that Preamble

the line of the Lacombe and North Western Railway Company (hereinafter called "the Company") should be extended from a point in the neighborhood of mile 69.4 in a generally northerly direction for a distance of 2.4 miles;

And whereas the estimated cost of the completion of such extension is the sum of Sixty-two Thousand Four Hundred Dollars;

And whereas the shares of the Company, or the greater part thereof, are held by the Government;

And whereas it is estimated that it will be necessary to advance the Company a further sum of Sixty-four Thousand Six Hundred Dollars to defray the cost of maintenance, improvement, upkeep and equipment of such railway during the year 1926;

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:

4. Notwithstanding any other statutory provisions, the Company shall have power to borrow and give security for sums lent to it under the provisions of this Act.

5. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may advance all moneys hereinbefore provided for at such time or times and at such rate of interest, upon such security, and on such other terms not inconsistent with this Act, as he may determine.

6. This Act shall come into force on the day upon which it is assented to.

CHAPTER 64.

An Act to amend The Telephone and Telegraph Act.

(Assented to April 8, 1926.)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta,

enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as "The Telephone and Tele- Short title graph Act Amendment Act, 1926."

2. The Telephone and Telegraph Act, being chapter 49 of New sections the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1922, is amended by adding and 16 added thereto the following sections:

"12. The Minister of Railways and Telephones shall have Pension fund power to provide for annuities or other payments by way of pension or superannuation benefit to the employees, or any class or classes of employees, of the telephone system of the Province, and in the event of so doing, shall embody the provision so made in a scheme which upon being approved of by the Lieutenant Governor in Council shall be operative according to its tenor.

"13. The scheme shall be administered by a board which shall consist of three persons

"(a) one appointed by the General Manager, who shall be chairman of the board;

"(b) one holding rank not lower than sub-official, to be elected by popular ballot of all participating employees; and

"(c) one, below the rank of sub-official, to be elected by popular ballot of all participating employees.

"14. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may upon the recommendation of the Minister direct the annual payment out of the revenue of the telephone system into any pension fund which may be created under the scheme aforesaid, of such sum of money as may be required under the provisions of the said scheme:

"Provided, however, that such sum of money shall not in any year exceed the sum contributed or to be contributed for that year by the said employees for the provision of annuities or other payments by way of pension or superannuation benefit.

"15. The said scheme may be altered from time to time by the Lieutenant Governor in Council upon the recommendation of the Minister of Railways and Telephones.
