EXPLOSION ON THE BATTLE SHIP GEORGIA.

Eight officers and men were killed and thirteen injured by the accidental explosion of two bags of powder in a turret of the battle ship Georgia during target practice off Barnstable in Cape Cod bay. July 15, 1907. Lieut. Casper Goodrich, who was in

charge of the turret at the time, was one of those killed. The cause of the accident was not deiinitely ascertained, but it was thought probable that a spark was blown back through a gnnport and ignited the powder.

The mean depth of all the oceans and seas Is I near the island of Guam in the Pacific. The estimated to be from 2 to 214 miles. The greatest greatest known depth in the Atlantic is 27,366 depth reported is 31,614 feet, or nearly 6 miles, I feet, off the coast of Porto Rico.
