5. When he was wide awake, he found it was only Polly that was calling his name. She was glad to see him, he had been away from home so long.

6. But I must not forget to tell you about Crusoe's man Friday. One day when he was walking on the sea-shore, Crusoe saw a boat come in. It was full of black men, who had come to kill and eat a prisoner.

7. All at once this poor man sprang away from them and ran to the place where Crusoe was hiding. Another black man after him, to bring him back. But Robinson Crusoe did not want the poor black man to be caught and killed. So he shot the bad man.

8. Then the poor black stopped and looked at Robinson Crusoe. At first, the man was afraid, but Crusoe made signs to him to come near. Then he made friends with him and called him Friday.

9. Friday loved Crusoe very much, because he had saved his life. And poor,

lonely Crusoe was very glad to have some one to talk to, and to help him. These two friends lived together on the island for many years.

10. But at last a ship came in sight, and some of the sailors went ashore. And so Robinson Crusoe was saved, and set sail for his own country, taking his friend Friday with him.

1. SOME children had a pet lamb called Daisy. Their mother could get no work to do, and had to sell some of her things to buy bread. At last she had nothing left to sell but the pet lamb.

2. So she went to the butcher and asked him to buy the lamb. The butcher said, "Here is $5, and I will come for the lamb to-morrow."

3. When he came the next day, the children were playing with Daisy. "I have come for the lamb," said the man. When they heard this, the children cried out, “O mother, you will not sell our lamb?"

4. Said the mother, "I have no food; I must sell it." The children all came about her, and begged her not to sell it.

5. Then the mother, with tears, gave back the money to the butcher, saying, “I will
