Presentation of Petitions.

Petition No. 6.

Petition of G. L. Keeslar and sixty other taxpayers of Branch county, asking the amendment of the present school law so that school districts shall allow tuition, to children having passed the eighth grade, to the nearest high school, regardless of the State line.

The petition was referred to the Committee on Education.

Petition No. 7.

Petition of Andrew Wallace and sixty-six other citizens of St. Joseph county asking that the open season for cisco fishing be extended from November 15 to December 10; and that it be made unlawful for any person in St. Joseph county to have in his possession or on his premises any fish nets, except dip nets or minnow seines.

The petition was referred to the Committee on Fish and Fisheries.

Petition of Wm. Peck and one hundred and ninety-seven other voters and taxpayers of the townships of Montague and Whitehall, Muskegon county, asking the enactment of a law whereby it will be lawful to fish with hook and line in the waters of White Lake for croppies at any time of the year.

The petition was referred to the Committee on Fish and Fisheries.

House Bill No. 16, entitled

A bill authorizing the purchase of M. A. C. Union bonds by the State Administrative Board out of the sinking funds created by and existing under the provisions of Act No. 1 of the First Extra Session, Public Acts of 1921 and Act No. 25 of the Extra Session, Public Acts of 1919.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the ComImittee on State Affairs.

Mr. Jewell introduced

House Bill No. 17, entitled

A bill to amend section 20 of Act No. 302 of the Public Acts of 1915, entitled, "An act to provide for the registration, identification and regulation of motor vehicles operated upon the public highways of this State, and of the operators of such vehicles, and to provide for levying specific taxes upon such vehicles so operated and to provide for the disposition of such funds and to exempt from all other taxation such motor vehicles so specifically taxed, registered, identified and regulated, and to repeal all other acts or parts of acts inconsistent herewith or contrary hereto," being section 4817 of the Compiled Laws of 1915. The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the Committee on Roads and Bridges.

A bill to authorize and direct the State Highway Commissioner to extend trunk line highway No. 88 from the village of Bellaire, Antrim county, northerly through the village of Central Lake, thence running northerly and westerly to connect with trunk line highway No. 11, at the village of Eastport.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the Committee on Roads and Bridges.

Mr. Beam introduced

House Bill No. 19, entitled

A bill to authorize and direct the State Highway Commissioner to extend trunk line highway No. 88 from its eastern terminal in the village of Mancelona, Antrim county, easterly to connect with trunk line highway No. 14 at or near Otsego Lake, Otsego county.

House Bill No. 20, entitled

A bill to amend section 13 of chapter 4, part 4, of Act No. 256, of the Public Acts of 1917, entitled, "An act to revise, consolidate and classify the laws of the State of Michigan relating to the insurance and surety business; to regulate the incorporation of domestic insurance and surety companies and associations and the admission of foreign companies; and to provide for the departmental supervision and regulation of the insurance and surety business within this State."

The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the Committee on Insurance.

A bill to amend section 1 of Act No. 5 of the Public Acts of 1885, entitled, "An act to establish uniform time in the State of Michigan," being section 1093 of the Compiled Laws of 1915.

House Bill No. 22, entitled

A bill to amend sections 7 and 9, Act No. 259, Public Acts of 1919, entitled, "An act to regulate the manufacture and sale of soft drinks, syrups, extracts, and all other non-alcoholic beverages within the State and prescribe penalties for violation thereof, and repeal Act No. 288 of the Public Acts of 1915."

The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the Committee on Public Health.

Mr. McKenzie introduced

House Bill No. 23, entitled

A bill to amend section 13 of Act No. 117 of the Public Acts of 1921, entitled, "An act to provide for the protection of game and birds, to regulate the taking,

possession, use and transportation of the same, to prohibit the sale thereof, to regulate the manner of hunting, pursuing and killing game or birds, to provide a penalty for the violation of any of the provisions of this act."

The bill was read a first and second time by its title and referred to the Committee on Conservation.

Mr. Howell offered the following concurrent resolution:
House Concurrent Resolution No. 4.

A concurrent resolution commending Hon. Andrew B. Dougherty for his efforts to prevent improper diversion of the waters of the Great Lakes.

Resolved, by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), that we hereby commend the Honorable Andrew B. Dougherty, Attorney General of Michigan, for his able and vigorous efforts in behalf of the people of the State of Michigan to prevent improper diverson of the waters of the Great Lakes by the Chicago Sanitary Drainage District, both in the Supreme Court of the United States and before the committees of Congress considering legislation bearing. upon the subject, and,

Be it further resolved, That we request the Attorney General to continue his efforts to safeguard the interests of the People of the State of Michigan against the efforts of the Chicago Sanitary Drainage District to unlawfully and unreasonably divert the waters of the Great Lakes, whether such action shall require his further appearance in the courts or before committees of Congress.

The concurrent resolution was referred to the Committee on Rules and Resolutions.
